This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of Crew Capsule structure.  This includes the design, analysis, testing, operation, and maintenance of Crew Capsule structural components.  You will facilitate part fabrication and vehicle assembly by reviewing work orders, coordinating with suppliers, and guiding Integration Engineers and Technicians.  You will support flight operations and vehicle maintenance through post-flight data reviews and inspections. You will also identify and implement engineering changes to improve the vehicle.  Specific to this role, we are seeking an engineer that has solid experience with designing, analyzing, building, and repairing composite aerospace structures.

Relocation provided.

Travel expected up to 50% of the time for approximately the first year then 5% of the time after the first year.

Shifts available:  1st shift

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the entire design cycle of structural and mechanical subsystems, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.
  • Generate 3-D models, component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents.
  • Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
  • Define assembly and test of development hardware and flight hardware.
  • Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
  • Work with Manufacturing Planning and Tooling to develop the subsystem assembly and integrations plans.
  • Provide manufacturing and production support.
  • Work with multi-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and direction to less experienced engineers.
  • Lead multi-functional and cross-discipline teams to investigate issues, solve problems, and implement changes.
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
  • Find opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.
  • Support flight operations and vehicle maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Knowledge in material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using CAD software.
  • Ability to conduct structural analysis using classical hand-calculation and finite element techniques.
  • Practical understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance analysis.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E), Windchill
  • Proficiency with designing and fabricating aerospace composite primary structures.
  • Experience with structural analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Deep understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • Experience with developmental testing, integration testing, and qualification testing.
  • Manufacturing Review Board qualification or experience as a Liaison engineer or production support engineer.
  • Experience supporting vehicle or fleet operations and maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of System Engineering practices.
  • Developing a statement of work, schedule, and budget (hour estimate) for an assignment or project.
  • Leading a multi-disciplined team to complete a project.


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80

Other site ranges may differ
