JOB DESCRIPTION:

While remote, this role requires TN residency and a commutable distance from Nashville, TN.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Government Relations Manager holds the overall responsibility of maintaining strategic state-based relationships with legislative offices and stakeholders as well as direct accountability for tracking, evaluating, and synthesizing state legislation/regulation impact. This role shall manage the coordination of a state-level policy committee comprised of board members and other community stakeholders. This includes organizing and briefing committee members for legislative meetings and other relevant events. Reports to the VP of National Policy in advancing Centerstone’s federal priorities. Approximately 70% of the role will be state (TN) focused, with around 30% being federally focused; the actual allocation may vary throughout the year pending organizational priorities. Some travel will be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages state legislative advocacy activities that advance the policy priorities of Centerstone and Centerstone’s policy committee.
  • Drafts letters to state lawmakers, and other entities as relevant.
  • Manages content development for issue briefs and talking points on state policy efforts for use by Centerstone staff and board/committee members in their advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinates annual “Hill Days” as well as on-going meetings for staff and board/committee members.
  • Monitors and reports on hearings, briefings, and other behavioral health care related events.
  • Engages with coalitions and support activities with strategic partners.
  • Assists in drafting comments for federal and/or state regulatory rules.
  • Aids in identifying and developing content for social media platforms.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to exercise judgment and diplomacy in a wide variety of external and internal settings.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies including business leaders, public officials, community representatives, consumers, trade associations, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Possesses strong collaboration and consensus building skills.
  • Effectively able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; able to conduct advance planning and meet deadlines.
  • A high degree of personal initiative; willing and able to work both independently and in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic and excellent follow through.
  • Ability to understand and accurately represent Centerstone’s positions in written and oral communications.
  • Willingness to travel within TN; and occasionally other Centerstone locations and/or Washington D.C.
  • Resides within the state of TN, ideally within close proximity to Nashville.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of related work history (legislative/advocacy experience, policy analysis, and familiarity with health care, managed care, or behavioral health a plus).

Pay Range:

$81,850.00--$122,740.00
