Lumentum is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work on the development of mechanics for tunable transceivers, optical devices and test fixtures. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and demonstrate an ability to multi-task and to work effectively in a team environment. In this role, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to work as part of a world-class engineering team. The senior engineer will be incumbent of more advanced knowledge, may be responsible to train others and guide junior and mid-level engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze mechanical systems, equipment and optical packaging for optical devices and transceivers
  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
  • Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication
  • Responsible for project requirements, design and characterization of mechanical components and devices as well as stablishing assembly procedures
  • Responsible for running thermal and structural simulations
  • Responsible for talking to suppliers and generate mechanical documentation for the devices fabrication
  • Control version of the drawings according to the company process
  • Assure design for performance, manufacturability and cost
  • Responsible for the characterization, verification/validation and qualification of the product

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience as a mechanical engineer
  • Experience with mechanics drawings version control
  • Experience using SolidWorks/Flow for both mechanical design and thermal simulation
  • Hands-on experience with machining operations including milling, drilling, and lathing
  • Experience handling with suppliers and validating the manufactured pieces

Desired Skills

  • Experience with mechanical design of optical transceivers
  • Experience with fiber routing and assembly procedure of optical transceivers
  • High level of English writing/reading/conversation
