Job Description

The Canadian segment Reporting Steward function contributes to the success of the end-to-end operation of the IFRS 17/9 Financial Reporting process in Canadian segment.  The Reporting Steward team works closely with a wide variety of people at the Group and segment levels including actuarial valuation, accounting, various IT teams and the business to ensure that the quarter-end process runs smoothly.  The incumbent is a valued member who will act as the Reporting Steward for several (but not all) lines of business in Canadian segment.  They will develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end reporting process and be able to trouble shoot production issues as well as coordinate various audit requirements and disclosure reports.  In addition to quarter-end responsibilities, the incumbent will also play a crucial role in ensuring that changes to the financial reporting process are implemented appropriately within the respective lines of business that they support.  This includes working with a cross functional team to gather, document, facilitate prioritization, and monitor the implementation of changes to the reporting process.

The ideal candidate is a great teammate who has proven project management experience along with experience in the financial reporting of insurance companies.  To be successful the individual should be a team player who is comfortable operating with minimal guidance and can communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of teams to reach win-win solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the financial reporting change management process by:
    • maintaining a long-term marco view of financial reporting projects within their purview and proactively engage with stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure effective implementation
    • facilitate the prioritization of the quarterly implementation list of projects within their purview
    • monitor the development and testing of items as they move towards final implementation
  • Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end reporting process and be able to trouble-shoot production issues within their purview
  • Coordinate various audit requirements and disclosure reports during quarter end within their purview

What we are looking for

  • Project Management certification.  Accounting and/or actuarial designations is an asset
  • Successful experience managing projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial service industry with experience in financial reporting 
  • Strong desire to learn and engage with finance reporting subject matter experts to expand knowledge and effectively advocate for the end-to-end Financial Reporting teams
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while demonstrating sound judgment
  • Superior written, verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills; able to influence and negotiate with management at various levels of the organization. Build strong relationship with key stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze complex situations quickly and appreciate the balance between business needs, system constraints and risk implications

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Salary range is expected to be between

$67,275.00 CAD - $112,125.00 CAD
