Job Summary

NAV CANADA is looking to hire a Manager, Labour Relations to their HR team in Ottawa. This role is accountable for supporting the strategic vision for Labour Relations by managing and providing leadership in the development of labour relations programs; facilitating the development and implementation of labour relations policy through consultation with senior management and national union representatives; negotiating and managing collective bargaining; managing complaint and grievance investigation and resolution processes including the selection of arbitrators to resolve Labour Relations issues.

What would your day-to-day activities look like:

  • Managing the delivery of services of the Labour Relations at the national and regional level including national union/management consultations.
  • Negotiation, ongoing review and managing of collective agreements along with drafting settlements/agreements.
  • Identifying, updating and recommending strategic program objectives.
  • Directing the development of LR policies.
  • Managing and monitoring the delivery of labour relations services and grievances in the field by providing expert and strategic advice and guidance to the Labour Relations Advisors and to senior managers.
  • Disseminating and providing explanations regarding arbitration awards, jurisprudence, Letters/Memorandums of Understanding, amendments to the Canada Labour Code.
  • Fostering positive employee/ union/ management relations.
  • Managing arbitration cases in consultation with the Legal counsel.
  • Manages all Labour Relations complaints to the Canadian Industrial Relations.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Industrials Relations or a related field, or a professional Human Resources certification.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in labour relations including experience as chief spokesperson in collective bargaining and/or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • Knowledge of LR principles, practices, and techniques best practices and the latest trends and developments in LR management both internal to the Corporation and in the private and public sectors.
  • Knowledge of the collective bargaining process, including conciliation, mediation and interest arbitration, collective agreement interpretation, dispute resolution mechanisms and union/management relationships.
  • Knowledge of Relevant labour and employment-related legislation as well as Labour Relations jurisprudence, principles and practices as well as research methods, techniques, measurement tools and methods of report presentation.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based at Ottawa Head Office but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
