Job Description

Are you a dynamic and driven professional with a passion for people and process, excellence in operations and experience or interest in board governance? Corewell Health is seeking a highly motivated Governance Specialist to join our team and become the backbone of our governance framework, supporting our board governance functions with expertise, enthusiasm and a commitment to best practices. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the go-to resource in your region for governance standard work as well as creating and providing essential templates and guidance while leading and mentoring your peers. You will prepare the Corewell Health East boardbook and playbook every quarter and provide vital operational support for our board and committees. Working closely with our legal department and key stakeholders, you'll have the opportunity to develop, maintain and enhance systemwide board governance procedures, driving efficiency and excellence across the organization. Job Summary

Provides support to the board governance functions at Corewell Health by serving as a resource for governance standard work, templates and best practices. Functions as a team and peer leader for others who support the various boards and in particular provides ongoing orientation and training to board liaisons. Works closely with the legal department, or other delegated individuals, to develop, maintain and improve systemwide board governance best practices and procedures and to create efficiencies. Collaborates with key stakeholders and leaders across Corewell Health and Priority Health to enhance education and to promote the growth and development of our boards.

Essential Functions

  • Supports the overall governance structure and coordination of standard work surrounding Corewell Health governing bodies

  • Plans and executes the creation of the quarterly boardbook collaborating with internal and external stakeholders  

  • Functions as the main point of contact for any questions and provides guidance on governance processes and procedures for Corewell Health East

  • Maintains governance resources and materials pertaining to boards and committees

  • Sets standards and supports necessary tasks related to board and committee onboarding and orientation

  • Creates and maintains templates and standard work as needed for board governance operations

  • Regularly provides guidance, direction and mentorship to peers and leaders across the organization, pertaining to board governance

  • Collaborates with team on all tasks related to board portal optimization

  • Leads a minimum of at least one board governance center of excellence as the subject matter expert for Corewell Health

  • Maintains relationships with colleagues across the organization and the country in order to develop and exchange best practices

  • Plans and executes an annual board governance regional symposium

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate's Degree or Equivalency

  • Three years of relevant experience in the capacity of a senior-level assistant to executives in a large organization
