GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Modern Workplace Engineer (MWE) plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the technology infrastructure that supports end-user devices and productivity applications for American Equity and Eagle Life. The role combines aspects of Systems engineering, end-user support, product ownership, and product management to create scalable and highly reliable technology platforms for our end-users. The MWE collaborates with other IT teams, departments, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and align end-user computing services accordingly.
**Position sits in West Des Moines and will work an onsite hybrid schedule**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategy and Leadership:
- Develops and coordinates execution of a strategic vision for end-user computing aligned with the overall business goals.
- Provides leadership and guidance to a cross-functional team responsible for end-user computing services.
- Infrastructure Management:
- Oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of end-user computing infrastructure, including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and virtual desktop environments.
- Ensures the availability, security, and performance of end-user computing systems.
- Works with IT Asset Management to support hardware lifecycle requirements.
- User Support:
- Works with support teams to ensure efficient and effective technical support to end-users.
- Oversees the design, implementation, maintenance, and delivery of end-user computing training materials.
- Establishes and maintains Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident resolution and request fulfillment.
- Image Management:
- Ensures deployment images are up to date with current software versions, security patches, firmware updates and drivers to work with all current and legacy hardware.
- Works with IT Asset Management to perform periodic scheduled image updates to support software lifecycle and release schedules.
- Follows established deployment plans for applying image updates to reduce incidents and end user disruption.
- Technology Evaluation and Integration:
- Stays current with emerging technologies and assess their applicability to improve end-user computing services.
- Evaluates and integrates new tools, software, and hardware to enhance user productivity and experience.
- Security and Compliance:
- Implements and enforces security measures to protect end-user computing systems and data.
- Ensures compliance with industry regulations and internal policies related to end-user computing.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborates with other IT teams, departments, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and align end-user computing services accordingly.
- Communicates effectively with leadership and end-users to provide updates, gather feedback, and address concerns.
- Budget Management:
- Develops and manages the budget for end-user computing, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Miscellaneous:
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Six (6) years of end-user computing experience in a similar role.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft end-user computing technologies preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
- Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator, Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, ITIL, CompTIA A+, or relevant vendor-specific certifications are desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Experience administering Microsoft Intune, AWS Workspaces, and Microsoft Configuration Manager(SCCM).
- Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing end-user computing or a similar IT function.
- Strong technical knowledge of desktop operating systems, hardware, mobile devices, and virtualization technologies.
- Excellent understanding of IT security principles and practices.
- Experience with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate and work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
