About You and this Role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Critical Mechanical Equipment (CME) Analyst located in Freeport, Texas.

The Critical Mechanical Equipment SME will provide technical knowledge and skill in the installation, repair and preventative maintenance functions for API turbo machinery equipment entered in the CME program. This role provides mechanical and technical support to other departments and personnel. The candidate will be involved in and supervise the installation and repair of most types of mechanical and specially designed equipment. This job involves work in the reliability and do work processes to maintain equipment reliability, communications of any technology upgrades and development of operating discipline, including history reports and procedures. Maintaining focus on critical equipment and systems, applicable codes and standards along with ensuring the most effective design is in compliance with Dow Safety and Loss Prevention principles, will afford optimum production for the plant and to set global standards by being best in class.

Responsibilities

  • First line response for troubleshooting critical equipment.
  • Assist in implementation and Predictive Preventative Maintenance (PPM) inspection plans for critical equipment.
  • Utilize Most Effective Technology (MET) and improved repair methods to provide cost effective and reliable equipment repairs.
  • Actively work with Planner, Scheduler, and Turnaround (TA) group in preplanning, work scope definition creation, and define critical paths related to shop and field repairs.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance of turbo machinery installation, repair, & overhauls (field or shop work).
  • Acting liaison between business personnel and work force.
  • Responsible for the communication of repair status on critical machine components and spares with businesses.
  • Provide job completion reports on all repairs and updated drawings for CME and plant partners.
  • Edit and make recommendations on job procedures and accepted practices with the latest MET and submit recommendations for review & Management of Change (MOC).
  • Assist the PPM Coordinator and Reliability Engineer (RE) with spare parts strategies for critical equipment.
  • Represent CME in root cause investigations and the event action tool assignments
  • Provides technical decisions on problem equipment taking into account business risk and production risk.
  • Works on plant level strategy for maintaining equipment
  • Acts as maintenance project representative on upgrades and reliability improvement projects.
  • Improve asset utilization of all CME program equipment.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for program equipment (job procedures, overhaul reports, etc.).
  • Zero rework, zero EH&S incidents, meet cost and schedule constraints associated with the overhaul and repair of program equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in mechanical equipment repair and function.
  • Is willing and able to follow and witness equipment repairs at local site, other Dow sites and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)/vendor shops. Occasional travel will be necessary.
  • Available for weekend call and holdover overtime, call-ins, plant turnarounds, is an expectation of the job.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • 5 or more years of experience in turbo machinery repair and functions.
  • Operations experience is a plus.
  • Completion of a machinist/millwright program is desirable. (journeyman, NCCER (National Center for Construction Education Research), vocational certifications).
  • Crew leader, Leadman, foreman, superintendent, project management experience desired on turbo machinery.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of turbomachinery, gearboxes and drivers
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, SAP is beneficial.

  • No relocation assistance is available for this position.

Physical Demands

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
  • Wearing of respiratory protection may be required in limited situations (full face air supplied, half face air purifying, etc.)
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.
  • Physical requirements - long hours standing, frequent climbing stairs/scaffolds/ladders, accessing turbomachinery structures, bending/reaching/some carrying/lifting, able to perform hands-on work with tools when needed.
  • Plant turbomachinery is typically located outdoors. Overhaul and repair work is not seasonal, it occurs anytime during the year.
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
