Job Summary:

As the Project Controller you will be responsible for executing the financial integrity of assigned projects through effective budget management, timely reporting, cost management, and financial forecasting while demonstrating in depth understanding of contract requirements for billing. In this position you will collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, and the finance team to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with financial and contractual requirements.

In this role you will lead activities of the Project Accountants including accounting administration, cost reporting and audit participation. Additionally, this role will provide leadership in hiring, training, performance management, and career development for the project accounting team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Executes compliance with Builder’s Lien Act, holdback requirements, payment processes, contract terms and project closeouts
  • Collaborates with project management team to complete the monthly management reviews and deliver accurate cost reports
  • Prepares and presents performance summaries and executive level project progress reports to leadership
  • Develops and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, monitoring project expenditures and ensure compliance with financial guidelines and project goals
  • Manages cost and profitability reporting for projects, ensuring alignment with key performance metrics
  • Guides team and in preparing LEMs, invoices and progress claims, ensuring adherence to approval processes and contract term
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports and information to Project Management & Operations teams as required
  • investigate financial anomalies and inquires, providing interpretation and resolution as require
  • Lead and train Project Accountants and Senior Project Accountants fostering continuous learning and performance excellence
  • Provide subject matter guidance of financial systems used and guide the implementation of process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Post-secondary business degree preferred
  • Strong knowledge of contractual, legal and commercial terms as it relates to the construction industry and
  • partnering
  • Working knowledge of construction methods
  • Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, equipment capital decisions, and profitability analysis
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting principles and Construction software systems
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, able to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Previous experience with construction administration and contract commercial terms
  • Relevant industry and JD Edwards experience would be an asset

  • This position offers work from home options with the understanding that at times you may be required to attend the office or travel to the project site as business needs require
