BUSINESS OVERVIEW
Johnson Controls-Hitachi (JCH) in the China, South East Asia, and Pacific Region is a dynamic and expansive operation. Our footprint includes 2 factories, 5 sales entities, and 1 office in the SEA/Pacific area, employing 120 associates. In Greater China, we operate 1 R&D center, 1 WOFE, 2 sales entities, and 4 joint ventures, with a workforce of 9,700 associates.
We offer a comprehensive portfolio of components, equipment, solutions, and services under the Hitachi and York brands. Our ‘new globalization’ strategy leverages China’s agile and cost-effective R&D engineering, along with local resources and labor, to swiftly launch products tailored to local market demands.
Our goal is to expand our offerings with diversified products, including heat pumps, high-efficiency chiller plant (HECP) solutions, and Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) services. These services provide cooling and heating energy solutions based on the integrated investment, construction, and operation capabilities of Hitachi, York, and other leading brands.
Ultimately, our ambition is to become a global champion in the HVAC industry, serving customers worldwide with innovative and sustainable solutions.
JOB PURPOSE
The HR Leader for China, South East Asia, and Pacific plays a pivotal role in driving the strategic and operational HR agenda to support Johnson Controls-Hitachi’s ambitious growth and innovation goals in the region. This role is crucial in aligning HR strategies with business objectives, ensuring the effective utilization of resources, and fostering a high-performance culture.
The incumbent will partner with the General Manager for China, SEA, and Pacific, and other business leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness, build a strong company culture, manage talent, and ensure high levels of employee engagement and relations. This alignment is essential to support the company’s comprehensive portfolio of components, equipment, solutions, and services under the Hitachi and York brands.
Additionally, the HR Leader will be a key member of the JCH HR leadership team, contributing to broader business perspectives and strategies beyond the remit of the partnering GM. This role requires expertise in Centers of Excellence (COE) to prepare for the transition to a new parent company and ensure effective Day 1 and post-merger integration (PMI). The HR Leader will leverage China’s agile and cost-effective R&D engineering, along with local resources and labor, to swiftly launch products tailored to local market demands, supporting the company’s ambition to become a global champion in the HVAC industry.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Business Partnering:
- Collaborate closely with the GM and senior leadership team to align HR strategies with business objectives, focusing on market expansion in China, SEA, and Pacific regions.
- Work closely with the VP HR to ensure HR operates as one team with one voice, balancing short-term business requests with long-term organizational sustainability and growth.
- Contribute to the JCH HR leadership team by providing insights and strategies that support the overall business objectives and enterprise goals.
- Team Management:
- Lead and manage a diverse HR team, including HR managers in the plants and country HR teams in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the HR team, ensuring alignment with regional and global HR strategies.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and career growth.
- Change Management and Transition:
- Lead change management efforts during organizational transformations, ensuring smooth transitions and employee buy-in.
- Leverage COE expertise to support HRBP effectiveness and prepare for the transition to a new parent company.
- Collaborate with JCI COE teams until Day 1, stepping in to fill gaps as the organization moves into the PMI phase.
- Develop and implement strategies for Day 1 readiness and post-merger integration (PMI), ensuring continuity and alignment with new organizational goals.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations in China, SEA, and Pacific regions, mitigating legal risks.
- Highlight and manage increased compliance and risk due to the upcoming deal closing, addressing ad-hoc tasks in addition to usual business-as-usual (BAU) activities.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to address potential HR-related issues in different markets.
- HR Operations and Key COE Areas:
- Lead efforts to attract and retain top talent in competitive markets, leveraging local insights and networks.
- Implement talent development programs tailored to the needs of diverse markets, ensuring a pipeline of future leaders.
- Design and implement performance management systems that align with regional business goals and cultural nuances.
- Use data analytics to monitor and improve employee performance, engagement, and productivity.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in HRM or a related field preferred
- Minimum 15 years’ HR experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
- HR experience in China, South East Asia, and Pacific markets
- Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate across a matrixed organization to optimize outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective leader in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate plans into phased actions
- Extensive understanding and responsibility in project and program management principles, with explicit experience in applying to deploy complex talent strategies and programs across a global organization
- Prior work experience in an MNC environment preferred
