Responsible for the day-to-day administration and leadership of Markel’s employee benefits programs, to include supporting the design of new benefit offerings and administration processes through analysis of employee utilization and market trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary liaison with third-party administrators to oversee the administration of Markel’s employee benefits programs
  • Evaluates and recommends global benefit programs where appropriate based on business needs
  • Assist in facilitation of the appropriate Governance Steering Committeefor each of the primary benefit areas
  • Reviews, updates, and/or coordinates the update and distribution of benefit communication materials using a variety of media, to include legally required notices, summary plan descriptions, benefit guides, and employee presentation to ensure participants receive correct information
  • Responsible for and coordinates with third-party vendor leave of absence and time off programs, to include disability, PTO and FMLA
  • Researches and advises HR organization of governmental regulations and activities as it relates to employee matters to ensure subject matter experts are aware of compliance standards
  • Works with Procurement in support of RFP processes, to include coordination and implementation of new vendors and programs
  • Prepares and responsible for governmental reporting relating to retirement and/or other benefit offerings
  • Resolves non-routine problems and continuously evaluates, makes recommendations and implements new approaches to current processes and program offerings based on analysis of data/metrics
  • Collaborates with HRIS and payroll, as needed to troubleshoot benefits related issues
  • Manages billing process which includes reviewing reports, submitting payment requests, and reviewing and reconciling data to determine if credits are necessary
  • Works on Human Resources and benefits-related projects in conjunction with other team members, to include but not limited to acquisition integration
  • Test modifications necessary to support benefits, retirement and other HR system changes and/or updates and conduct user acceptance testing
  • Recommend, optimize and implement process improvements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • College degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 5 – 10 years of benefit administration experience; Health & Welfare
  • Experience with Workday, SAP, Oracle, and/or Paycom highly preferred
  • Proven skills to lead and guide programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include presentation skills
  • Proven ability to analyze and influence senior management, using data
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel and Power Point
