Reporting to the VP Engineering, the Director of Engineering is responsible for SeatGeek’s cloud infrastructure, the platform on which all of SeatGeek runs. You will be responsible for delivering on a wide range of initiatives to modernize our systems and to be on par with the best in the industry.

You will be focused on driving technology upgrades and improvements in performance, reliability, and operability. You will tackle important scale projects as SeatGeek expands into more markets, while also growing the enterprise customer base to hundreds. You will own a roadmap that strives to reach and continue to be at, the cutting edge of technology innovation in this domain. The Cloud Infrastructure team also leads SeatGeek’s external technology presence by contributing to the various open-source projects that we use.

As a Director and member of the product and engineering leadership team, you will contribute to the development of SeatGeek’s short and long-term strategy, quarterly goals, yearly plans and budgets. You will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, working on programs that have a wide, cross functional impact impact and company visible goals!

What you'll do

  • Work with engineering and product leaders across the business to identify high-impact programs of work; then develop concrete plans and recommendations on how best to deliver those programs given time, budget, and staffing constraints
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and partners to help formulate plans, and evaluate success
  • Use both direct and indirect authority, execute critical projects, make business critical decisions, and provide frequent updates on progress
  • Manage project budgets, risk registers, dependencies, and communication plans 
  • Use agile software delivery methods, break larger projects into smaller pieces, strive for incremental delivery
  • Identify key metrics for evaluating the success of your programs of work
  • Operate, monitor, and care for your applications and services in a production environment
  • Recruit and directly manage a team of high-caliber engineers and engineering managers
  • Advocate for the needs of your team(s) in the pursuit of efficacy and efficiency in delivery
  • Create a healthy culture that balances short-term urgency and long-term sustained performance and growth

What you have

  • Experience motivating teams to deliver complex, high impact projects in a fast-paced environment
  • The drive to find clarity from roughly scoped ideas and deliver concrete results 
  • Ability to design and architect complex, inter-dependent distributed systems
  • Experience as a great cross-functional operator, utilizing influence and indirect authority to deliver results
  • Experience operating in a highly dynamic environment with frequently changing conditions and priorities
  • A strategic ability to assess the bigger picture in pursuit of ambitious goals
  • Ability to self direct towards goals, with high accountability and ownership of results.
  • Ability to problem solve, able to quickly digest a problem and evaluate solutions; able to balance competing priorities in alignment with business and department goals
  • Clear and concise communication skills; effective at all levels in an organization
  • Ability to make effective decisions under pressure and promote a calm and considered approach; Assertive when required, able to challenge and be challenged in a constructive and respectful way
  • A high motivation to consistently improve efficiency and quality of delivery

The salary range for this role is $243,000-$334,000. Actual compensation packages within that range are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.
