SAP Developer (Integration - EDI)

What you will do

In this vital role you will lead the design, development, and implementation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) solutions within the SAP ecosystem, focusing on IBM Sterling Integrator. You will be responsible for managing seamless electronic data exchange between Amgen and external trading partners by developing robust interfaces using SAP EDI/IDoc standards and middleware technologies like SAP CPI, MuleSoft, or other integration platforms. This role requires expertise in SAP-EDI integration to optimize system performance and ensure consistency to industry regulations and SAP standard processes.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with SAP functional and technical teams, external trading partners, and business collaborators to design, develop, and maintain EDI maps, configurations, and interfaces that align with Amgen’s integration strategy. You will ensure the reliability and efficiency of EDI transactions and play a key role in enhancing operational efficiency while adhering to SAP’s Clean Core principles.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement EDI solutions using SAP EDI/IDoc interfaces and IBM Sterling Integrator, ensuring seamless data exchange between SAP and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain EDI mapping specifications for various EDI messages and interfaces, ensuring accurate translation of data between formats such as ANSI X12, EDIFACT, and TRADACOM.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to align EDI solutions with overall SAP architecture and business processes, ensuring compatibility and efficient data flow between SAP modules and external entities.
  • Design and configure SAP systems to optimize EDI integration, considering business requirements and industry standards to achieve reliable performance.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between SAP and EDI systems, using middleware technologies like IBM SI, SAP CPI, etc. to support efficient and secure data integration.
  • Monitor and fix EDI transactions, proactively identifying and resolving integration issues to maintain system reliability and minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with EDI standards, SAP best practices, and industry regulations by staying updated on trends and advancements in EDI and SAP technologies.
  • Collaborate with external trading partners to onboard new partners, manage EDI testing, and resolve any data exchange issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Document technical specifications and configurations, including EDI maps, interface development details, and fix guides to ensure accurate system documentation.
  • Deliver training and support to end-users and support teams on EDI processes, tools, and standard methodologies, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and issue resolution.
  • Continuously assess and optimize the performance of SAP-EDI integrations, implementing improvements to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the accuracy of data flows.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 4 to 6 years of IT or related field experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 to 8 years of IT or related field experience OR
  • Diploma and 10 to 12 years of IT or related field experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in EDI design, development, and implementation, including SAP EDI/IDoc-based interface development and configuration.
  • Strong expertise in EDI mapping, including the creation and management of translation rules for various EDI messages.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAP-EDI integration, ensuring seamless data exchange between SAP modules and external trading partners.
  • Proficiency in using middleware technologies such as IBM SI and SAP CPI to develop and manage interfaces between SAP and EDI systems.
  • Experience in issue resolution and performance optimization, with the ability to proactively fix and optimize SAP-EDI integrations.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud integration platforms such as AWS to support cloud-based EDI solutions.
  • Knowledge of SAP B2B for EDI integrations and demonstrating SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to extend EDI capabilities.
  • Experience with Agile/DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines, to streamline the EDI development process.

Professional Certifications:

  • IBM Sterling Integrator or EDI-related certifications (preferred)
  • SAP Certified Development Specialist – SAP Integration (preferred)
  • Agile Certified Practitioner (preferred)
