Job Description

Position Summary:

NRECA’s Finance department manages the accounting, financial planning/budgeting, and procurement operations across a broad range of entities and businesses that support NRECA and its affiliated organizations, trusts, and other entities. We are a team of dynamic individuals collaborating across NRECA to implement best practices and provide innovative business solutions. We enable the good stewardship of member funds across NRECA by diligently embracing our core values of transparency and fiscal responsibility.

We are looking for a team member to lead the accounting and financial reporting for Homestead Funds, a series of nine publicly traded mutual funds. In collaboration with the Funds’ Treasurer/Principal Financial Officer, this position will lead accounting, taxes/distributions and financial reporting functions that ensure compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP standards of accounting. The individual in this role will serve as a business partner and advisor to the Homestead team on financial reporting matters and will work across departments to ensure compliance and timely completion of financial and accounting projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the production of the annual and semi-annual shareholder reports, accompanying financial statements, and the schedules of investments for N-PORT attachments, ensuring timely and accurate completion, in conjunction with service providers and internal departments including Investment Operations, Compliance, Marketing, and Legal.
  • Reviews and approves SEC filings prepared by service providers, including N-MFP, N-PORT, and N-CEN.
  • Provides oversight of service providers, including accounting, expense processing, tax compliance, and SEC filing functions.
  • Prepares and presents quarterly financial highlights and other requested financial materials, including 15c reporting, to the Funds’ Board of Directors.
  • Coordinates and facilitates annual external audit. Works across departments including Investment Operations, Compliance, Legal, and with service providers, to lead timely and compliant audit processes.
  • Manages Fund income/capital gain distribution, tax return preparation, and filing processes.
  • Assists the Legal team in the preparation of the annual Prospectus / N-1A filing for the Funds for delivery to shareholders and filing with the SEC.
  • Supports monthly and quarterly data warehouse/website updates.
  • Serves as a member of the Advisers’ Valuation Committee, which provides oversight of valuation related matters including pricing vendor selection and oversight, daily pricing process (including fair valuation), and valuation related disclosures in financial reports and SEC filings.
  • Keeps up to date on SEC regulation, GAAP or IRS changes impacting mutual fund  accounting or financial reporting.
  • Serves as lead on projects that impact Homestead Funds, including accounting and financial reporting aspects of the following: (1) Changes in SEC regulation or GAAP requirements; (2) Process improvement changes; (3) Fund changes . Offers advisory support to Homestead team on financial reporting matters. Directly supports the Funds’ Treasurer/Principal Financial Officer on projects related to financial compliance of the funds.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Skillsets:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and additional experience.
  • 10 or more years of progressive accounting/financial reporting experience in the mutual fund industry.
  • Knowledge of the Investment Company Act of 1940 and SEC regulations.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Strong technical skills in mutual fund financial reporting and/or accounting.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects at various stages of development using effective organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to foster collaborative skills and consensus building while operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and implement solutions that will meet business objectives.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership, employees and/or vendors in a clear and precise manner.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, copier, printer, or other job-related equipment.
  • Ability to report to the office when required
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Corporate accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
