Sterile Processing Supervisor - Indian River Hospital

As a CS/SPD Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of sterile processing or the central sterile supply unit.  

A caregiver in this position works 7am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday. On call hours are required periodically.
 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare and evaluate daily staff assignments for assigned shifts.
  • Ensure staff are in compliance with department and CCF policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Assess quality of services delivery to ensure department quality standards are met, turnaround time is efficient and OR
  • needs are met.
  • Facilitate staff development programs including in-services on product usage and infection control.
  • Assist in orienting new employees and may act as preceptor.
  • Collect data and prepare reports concerning instrument distribution, loss and replacement.
  • Administer an instrument preventative maintenance program.
  • Use the department's instrument and productivity tracking program to maintain accurate records regarding sterilization and set assembly count sheets.
  • Establish internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with set standards.
  • Establish par level stocks and monitors for proper utilization, as applicable.
  • Actively seek ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround time, maintain work-flow and improve customer service.



Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Sterile Processing Certification required from a recognized program.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician required.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:

  • Two years as a CS/SPD Lead Technician preferred.
  • Operating Room experience is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching and lifting.
  • Some instrument trays may weigh in excess of 30 pounds.
  • Possible exposure to biohazardous materials, possible exposure to carcinogenic and hazardous chemicals and gases.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
