Ready to explore a career path? Start your journey.

Amex GBT Tax comprises a team of 12 tax professionals, located in the UK and North America, whose responsibility is to manage Amex GBT’s global tax affairs, comprising tax reporting, compliance, planning and advice to the business. Amex GBT Tax is also supported by a newly formed Tax Centre of Excellence based in India.

Amex GBT has been listed on the NYSE since May 31, 2022 and comprises a US domiciled holding company at the head of what is a truly international group. Amex GBT is growing significantly, both organically and through acquisition, having had an offer recently accepted for Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), a transaction that is expected to close in Q1 of 2025.

As a result of an internal organisational restructuring, a vacancy has arisen for a North American (US or Canada) based Tax Director to join Amex GBT Tax to lead on US income tax compliance and NYSE tax reporting, as well as supervise SALT.  You would be initially leading a small team of direct reports, although that team is expected to increase significantly as a result of the CWT acquisition and offers the successful candidate the chance to be a senior member of and contributor to an ambitious, dynamic and influential corporate function.

This is a high profile, hands-on role, with a varied US tax focus that will develop and broaden your US and international tax knowledge as well as your tax accounting expertise. You will be offered unrivalled exposure to sophisticated issues and experiences to further your career, as well as the opportunity to make your mark as Amex GBT pushes ahead with its strategy for growth.

Amex GBT Tax currently operates a relatively flat reporting structure, thus promoting a strong team ethic. The position will work alongside the VP of Tax and other members of Amex GBT Tax, as well as interacting with Amex GBT colleagues at all levels across the organization and external advisers.

This role is a remote role, although depending upon the location of the successful candidate, it may be possible to offer a hybrid work arrangement.

What You'll Do:

  • Leading a co-sourced arrangement with advisers to ensure that Amex GBT meets its US tax filing obligations and makes tax payments in a timely manner.
  • Leading on the quarterly tax reporting of Amex GBT’s tax figures as part of the 10-Q and 10-K NYSE filings, with support from other members of the Amex GBT Tax team, as well as assist with provision of guidance to management and investors on Amex GBT’s Effective Tax Rate (ETR) and cash taxes
  • Working alongside Amex GBT International Tax and Transfer Pricing colleagues on the consequences on ETR/cash taxes of planning around and modelling of e.g. US tax consolidation, NOL utilization, s382/SRLY limitations, GILTI, BEAT, DCLs, FDII, FTCs
  • Involvement on SALT planning for both direct and indirect taxes, working alongside Indirect Tax subject matter authorities
  • Ad hoc projects and involvement on US tax audits as necessary with appropriate internal and external support
  • Development of junior staff

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of 10 year’s relevant US tax experience in the majority of the areas detailed above, gained either in practice and/or in-house
  • CPA or have a relevant US tax qualification
  • Strong US GAAP technical tax accounting knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of US domestic tax law and a reasonable understanding of international tax rules.  As the spectrum of this role is broad, appropriate support will be provided on any developmental areas
  • Experience of leading a team

You should also be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment,
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal guidance,
  • Great teammate with strong interpersonal skills,
  • Strong analytical skills and challenging mind, prepared to ask and explain “why” rather than “what”,
  • Ambitious to succeed and strong drive to push tasks through to completion,
  • Good organizational skills and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to think outside of the box and beyond tax, with a “can do” attitude,
  • Strong decision maker but pragmatic,
  • Solid Excel skills
