Job Summary:

The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) is responsible for creating and enforcing standards in the electronic health record (EHR) in order to increase quality of patient care, enhance operational efficiency, and improve analytics.

Education & Experience

MD degree with five (5) years medical practice experience.  The CMIO should have knowledge of how information technology impacts care processes and disease prevention, and an understanding of requirements necessary to achieve ‘return on investment’ from information technology expenditures.

Higher degree in Clinical Informatics and experience with EPIC preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:  State of Mississippi medical license before practicing as a physician and in accordance with the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure rules and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

Good grasp of clinical workflow in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and experience with information technology optimization. Strong leadership qualities with a mature sense of priorities and practical experience who can design and implement systems within the framework of technical and fiscal boundaries. Ability to work successfully in a matrix management model. Systems thinking and strong organizational skills, along with passion for the highest quality. A team player who promotes the concepts of people and systems working together versus individual performance or silo applications. Understanding of major trends in healthcare, managed care, clinical systems, and information technology, to enhance practice and gain competitive advantage in the healthcare environment.


Responsibilities

  • Optimize and standardize clinical use of EHR.
  • Develop a governance model for the EHR to ensure adherence to standards and obtain feedback from clinicians.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to anticipate significant changes in clinical practice that will require additional or modified technical resources to sustain acceptable levels of productivity.
  • Encourage a culture of data driven performance through the strategic design and use of the EHR to improve clinical data capture.
  • Participate in Data Governance from clinical perspective. This includes data collection, data management, data analytics, and reporting.
  • Establish a Physician Builder Program
  • Knowledgeable of clinical informatics trends and approaches to promote continuous improvement in clinical information systems.
  • Educates, motivates and provides expertise. Projects a knowledgeable and informed presence for the institution as required.
