Human Center Design DirectorJob Description:
Human Center Design Director
The Human Center Design Director will be responsible for building, managing, gaining internal buy-in, advancing, and piloting a portfolio of possible innovative solutions that will support the business growth opportunities and strategic vision. In this role, you will work side by side with our business leaders to understand the humans we serve, craft clear opportunities for growth and engagement, invent what the future looks like, and work with others to bring those ideas to life.
How you will make an impact:
• Develop relationships with the business units to identify opportunities for innovation by understanding problems, needs, and ideas from the business, the customers, and the members, and effectively formulate innovative solutions following the innovation process and model.
• Build a pipeline of ideas, manage the pipeline, and prioritize the pipeline through criteria that ensure alignment with the strategic pillars and desired focus areas.
• Explore vendors and technologies in the market that could provide a solution or component of a solution and make build, buy, and partner recommendations.
• Uncover, explore, and find the story in the data that ensures innovation’s strategic recommendations are informed opinions based on evidence.
• Establish various metrics (clinical effectiveness, adoption, financial, etc.) designed to track the effectiveness of start-up solutions and emerging technologies and solutions in meeting organizational targets.
• Building customer profiles, mapping customer journeys, and identifying pain points where an omni-channel experience can be re-imagined.
• Work with senior executives to secure approval and funding to advance through the innovation process.
• Shepherd innovation initiatives through the Innovation Studio process by assuming a program leadership role as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Track and report on ideas in the pipeline, on active initiatives in the Innovation Studio funnel, and on pilots that are in development and getting launched.
• Support immersion workshops with cross-functional colleagues to ensure the voice of the design target is brought to life.
• Leverage project and program management skills to execute and manage initiatives across the business.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field of study and a minimum of 15 years experience in information technology, healthcare, consulting, and/or consumer technologies; or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:
• Knowledge of human-centered design methodology and strong leadership through project work leveraging best practices and tools.
• A mix of left and right brain, bringing both the rational business acumen that sells in possibilities, and the creative brand storytelling that convinces people to buy.
• Designing and leading workshops with internal teams and/or clients; facilitating conversations, championing unexpected insights to inspire creative solutions.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, a self-starter with a bias towards action, and able to adjust to shifting priorities.
• Great communication skills to present design decisions and processes clearly and confidently, regardless of audience.
• Advocate for the Jobs to Be Done (JTBD) framework and tying that to enablers that provide us a path to implementation.
• Deliver research insights across phases of the operating model within the Agile working model.
• Contribute to the development and tracking of KPIs for key initiatives in collaboration with our implementation team.
• Experience designing and building solutions for health care is a plus.
• Design skills are a plus.
• Previous work with behavior change models and application – please, not theory only.
• Ability to visualize and prototype (in collaboration with a design team) intended solutions at various levels of fidelity to use as stimuli in research.
• A collaborative approach – you’re a great partner to your cross-functional teammates.
• A growth mindset – you’re curious and receptive to feedback and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
