POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose for this position is to lead the creation of new or revised specifications for product packaging.    This role requires project management skills to gather requirements, develop the timeline, and approve the packaging specifications.  These packaging specifications include artwork, copy, weights, dimensions, packing and palletization instructions.  The Packaging System Leader is responsible for delivering the packaging milestones on time for launch of new products, cost savings projects, business continuity projects, and regulatory compliance projects.

The position is expected to influence and drive results with internal cross functional groups, global manufacturing sites, and primary vendors. This role possesses high standards of professional performance and demonstrates both personal and organizational sensitivity.  The position communicates directly with the project leaders and stakeholders to gather packaging requirements and provide progress updates.  The Packaging System Leader provides direction to the Labeling Team to complete the artwork creation, approval, and specification documentation. 

The Packaging System Leader reports to the Sr Manager, Packaging & Labeling and receives direction in the form of specific project and initiative objectives. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather all packaging and labeling requirements from project cross-functional leaders and organize in a clear and concise manner.
  • Initial Packaging Change Requests with clear supporting documents and well-planned due dates for publishing.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail for proofing specifications prior to approval and publishing to Packaging WebCenter
  • Demonstrate good documentation practices when completing change management deliverables in EtQ.
  • Proficient in O&M packaging database and approval software:  Packaging WebCenter
  • Proficient in O&M quality and change management software:  EtQ.
  • Lead investigation and action planning for quality non-conformances (QNC).
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to improve lead time of packaging update processes.
  • Is flexible with work hours and travel required to support global manufacturing sites and suppliers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Science, Quality Assurance, and/or progress toward advanced degree in related field.
  • At least 3 years working experiences related to package design and artwork development
  • Working experiences in medical device industry preferred
  • Familiarity of FDA or EU labeling requirements preferred
  • Skilled in Project Management methodology and tools

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Basic understanding of a broad range of packaging materials, structures and processes including  corrugate, folded cartons, flexible films, tapes, and inks.
  • Project management skills related to defining scope, planning, and execution
  • Experience in FDA regulated industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen eye for detail for proofing specifications and artwork
  • Proficient in software tools for managing documents and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools:  Excel, Word, Powerpoint, MS Project

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Job requires up to 10% travel on average.  Travel will include packaging supplier visits and on-site support of manufacturing sites as needed to establish packaging and labeling specifications.  International travel may be required.
