Workiva is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to lead our talented team and shape the future of our platform's reliability. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in building a high-performing team focused on scalability, efficiency, and exceptional customer experience.


What You'll Do

  • Lead and empower a team of SREs in building, maintaining, and monitoring Workiva's mission-critical cloud platform

  • Partner with product engineering teams to design and implement highly reliable, scalable, and efficient cloud-based microservices

  • Champion Site Reliability Engineering best practices within Workiva

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure platform availability, performance, and resilience 

  • Manage incident responses and post-mortem processes to ensure learnings are captured and implemented

  • Oversee the development of automation tools to improve system reliability and organizational efficiency

  • Drive continuous improvement in operational processes and practices

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align SRE goals with business objectives

  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team environment


What You'll Need

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or related career experience)

  • 10+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or related field

  • 3+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or as an engineer building production systems at scale

  • Experience working with and leading a consultative engineering team

  • Experience crafting and implementing architecture and/or system design standards across an engineering organization

  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Bash)

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale cloud infrastructures and distributed systems

  • Strong technical background in cloud-based architectures and systems, including containerization and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Experience crafting and implementing architecture and/or system design standards across an engineering organization

  • Strong technical background in cloud-based architectures and systems

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence skills

Travel Requirements & Working Conditions

  • 25% travel for team jams and internal meetings

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely and not in a Workiva office

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $167,000.00 - $284,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and other relevant factors.
