Job Description:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work in both Myrtle Beach and Conway offices

SUMMARY: A PET Technologist is primarily responsible for preparing and administering radioactive chemical compounds as radiopharmaceuticals. This also includes performing patient imaging procedures using sophisticated radiation imaging equipment. The technologist works, as directed by physician, to provide patient care by performing the duties outlined below.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Performs all procedures in accordance with the requirement of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).

  • Properly prepares, administers and measures radioactive isotopes in therapeutic and diagnostic radiotracer studies utilizing a variety of equipment.

  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.

  • Moves equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.

  • Maintains and calibrates radioisotope and laboratory equipment in accordance with required calibration schedule.

  • Ensures that all received radioactive materials are wiped, surveyed, logged and properly disposed of in accordance with DHEC standards.

  • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.

  • Conducts quality control and prepares reports for Diagnostic Imaging Department.

  • Maintains radiation monitors and proper registration of radiology equipment.

  • Complies with local, state and federal regulations pertaining to radiology.

  • Orders and stocks all radiology supplies.

  • Orients new employees to radiology.

  • Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting of all equipment.

  • Continues education as required by professional registry.

  • Communicates in a timely, effective manner with supervisor.

  • Attends all staff meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate degree in Radiology Technology
Experience: Prefer one (1) year experience in Diagnostic Imaging
Certificates, Licenses and Regulations: SC Radiation Quality Standard
Association License, Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists (ARRT); Registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Certification Board (NMTCB)
 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge Nuclear medicine procedures and protocols

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform required testing including body mechanics and patient movement

  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology

SKILLS:

  • Skill in positioning patients properly

  • Skill in preparing and administering Radiopharmaceuticals

  • Skill in identifying and correcting equipment problems.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate clearly

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, patients, employees and the public

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
