Position Purpose: Provide strategic and tactical expertise on Public Policy priorities and objectives. Work closely with external stakeholders and departmental leadership to directly provide policy expertise to Centene executive leadership.

  • Our team works closely with health plans, corporate leadership, and government affairs at both the federal and state level to inform the broader business of emerging policy trends, establish policy positioning, build influence through advocacy and thought leadership, and support sustainable growth

  • This individual will be a critical member of a national team bringing policy expertise and insights to health plan and business operations

  • Centene’s hyperlocal approach to managed care – with local brands and local teams – allows us to be uniquely responsive to state policy trends. This position would be responsible for translating these state policy trends into sustainable business practices

  • As a Senior Director, this position would serve as a subject matter expert for health plans, internal collaborators, and external partners to provide policy expertise and consultation on issues pertaining to Medicaid, managed care, payment models, pharmacy, and other emerging state issues

  • This role will be responsible for developing deliverables, including policy recommendations, white papers, advocacy documents, presentations, and other ad hoc content, to inform state and federal policies to meet the needs of the members we serve

  • The person in this role must have a deep passion for and knowledge of Medicaid and state policy, the relationship between managed care and health care providers, and be a strong, concise communicator. They must also be effective at synthesizing complex policies and concepts into meaningful messages and actions

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Regional Vice President of State Affairs and Policy, this position will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and analyzing emerging state issues and regulatory trends

  • Analyzing proposed laws, rules, and regulations to determine their potential impacts 

  • Supervising direct reports including hiring, training, assigning work, and managing the performance of staff

  • Directing the State Public Policy team’s internal and external engagement to convey CNC policy positioning and drive cross-product policy priorities

  • Serving as point of contact to educate leadership on state policy changes and represent Public Policy’s agenda and priorities

  • Working closely with health plans, internal stakeholders, and government affairs colleagues at the state and national level to inform the broader business of emerging policy trends, establish policy positioning, build influence through advocacy and thought leadership, and support sustainable growth

  • The candidate must possess a strong understanding of the state legislative landscape and the ability to build relationships at the state level

  • Direct all projects and cross functional teams within individuals’ health policy portfolio and provide supervision to direct reports including hiring, training, assigning work, and managing the performance of staff

  • Direct health policy team’s internal and external engagement to convey CNC policy positioning and drive cross-product policy priorities

  • Serve as point of contact to educate leadership on cross-product policy changes and represent health policy’s agenda and priorities

  • Direct health policy team’s internal and external engagement to convey CNC policy positioning and drive cross-product policy priorities

  • Review and provide strategic guidance on direct reports’ deliverables including position papers, talking points, meeting summaries, policy briefs, and fact sheets on health policy issue areas


 

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Political Science, Healthcare Administration, Economics, Law, or similar field. Master’s degree preferred. 8+ years of experience in public policy, health policy, policy analysis, or public health.

Pay Range: $142,300.00 - $263,500.00 per year
