The Opportunity 


Reporting to the Senior Director, Accounting, the Manager, Accounting will be responsible for leading the financial monthly close for various legal entities, including the day-to-day accounting tasks and monthly reconciliations, and supporting the Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting teams. 


Responsibilities   

  • Facilitate and manage the month-end close process and prepare financial statements  

  • Review and approve various monthly reconciliations and journal entries 

  • Analyze financial statements monthly and report on variances versus budget/prior  year/forecast as required 

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal control requirements  

  • Support Canopy’s external reporting requirements relating to the quarterly and annual financial statements, the corresponding notes, as well as the management discussions and analysis and all other externally disclosed financial information including security filings 

  • Research and document the accounting implications of significant or unusual transactions to assess impacts on financial reporting and accounting activities 

  • Assist senior management to continuously drive improvements in accounting and financial reporting by completing special projects as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned 

Experience 

  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA)  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Business or equivalent  

  • 5-7 years of accounting experience 

  • Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP a definite asset 

  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP experience required, experience with SAP or Sage a definite  asset 

  • Experience in a public company and SOX experience is ideal 

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate and influence all levels in the  organization including a broad base of finance and business partners 

  • Initiative and results oriented, and strong attention to detail and accuracy 

  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to lead, direct and manage a team  

  • Proficiency in planning and prioritization and ability to multi-task 

  • Ability to build productive relationships
