Job Description Summary

The Principal Clinical Consultant is a highly experienced professional possessing industry best practice knowledge, experience, and capabilities to continuously develop, influence, consult, and drive world-class implementations and customer support.

This position serves as the BD Infusion implementation subject matter expert and has extensive knowledge of the MMS portfolio of products. Demonstrated success in this role includes expert level knowledge of IV therapy best-practices, mastery of the consultative approach, ability to develop various styles of tailored or customized support, strong coaching skillset, and proven ability to incorporate implementation best-practices that influence product adoption and clinical success of BD Infusion products. Role serves as the BD Infusion subject matter expert and must be able to look across connected med management and possess knowledge of products and services outside of Infusion.

Position responsibilities include creation and delivery of product and implementation education to customers and associates; function as subject matter expert on policies, procedures, and work instructions that govern Infusion Professional Services; support education of new product launch to associates and customer; support ancillary projects as assigned by manager, including but not limited to: human factors validation testing (HFVT), Infusion Readiness extended core team, facilitation of Running Our Business (ROB) and all-hands calls; Field Trainer team and projects.

Overall responsibilities:

 The overall responsibilities of the implementation Principal Clinical Consultant include:

  • Mastery knowledge and application of clinical and business operations, products, and services. 

  • Leads presentations and discussions with key individuals or groups to address clinical issues and/or concerns, provides assessments, supports new product development, and offers the clinical value of the BD solution.  

  • Demonstrated professional accountability by seeking out opportunities to continuously improve self, peers, and product; willingly and professionally brings new knowledge to team through multiple communication mechanisms (discipling calls, ROB calls, partnership with Field Trainers and supporting business partners.  

  • Provides clinical leadership to BD customers and internal teams in the implementation of Infusion and non-infusion products. 

  • ​Actively and willingly coaches to raise skill level of peers.

  • Forges strong collaboration partnerships with Marketing, Sales, Implementations, GCS Education Services, Designated Customer Handling Unit (DCHU), and Technical Customer Support.

  • ​Interacts with and supports Project Manager to ensure timely and productive implementations. 

  • Proactively identifies opportunities with hospital clinicians, EMR and other third party vendors to facilitate and participate in the development of policies and procedures; defining workflows, protocol developments and updates; resource group development; device education; go-live and post-implementation clinical rounds and consulting. 

  • Synthesizes HL7 error codes to provide failure resolution and identifies appropriate technical or clinical escalation to subject matter experts.

  • Provides follow up to customers, according to department guidelines/criteria, for the purpose of system assessment, customer satisfaction, problem solving, and evaluation of the BD product/solutions. 

  • Develops recommendations to assure that customers experience the full benefit and capabilities of solutions implemented. 

  • ​Accountable to all projects assigned by manager, director, or above.

  • Consistently provide concise and professional closed-loop communication.

  • Lead/facilitate associate new hire orientation on product and process content areas, as assigned.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for peer education.

  • Support all functions of BD business as assigned by manager.

  • Maintain knowledge of regulated device requirements.

Skills, Duties and Tasks particular to the job:

Principal Clinical Consultant

Communication

  • Expert classroom/meeting facilitation and management skills.

  • Facilitation of conference calls and customer meetings.

  • Establish rapport with customers that is conducive to long term business relationships. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams, gain consensus, and expected deliver results.

  • Support Field Trainer program in all capacities ensuring product competency and adherence to defined process. 

  • Consulting or coaching through connected med management design and implementation.

  • Provide product and process education support to GCS partners.

  • Identifies opportunities and provides feedback to business operations and Field Trainer team for continuous improvement of implementation methodology, tools, and services. 

  • Provide team and product support for BD Infusion, Non-Infusion and MMS products as assigned by manager. 

Technical

  • Expert use of MS Office 365 applications.

  • Master-level knowledge and competency of BD Infusion product use according to published user manuals, directions for use, etc. 

  • Ability to interact and guide diverse cross-functional teams with a focus on complex healthcare IDN’s and enterprise level health systems. 

  • Utilize approved documents, tools, and resources ensuring compliance to process and work instructions.

  • Demonstrate mastery of established BD Infusion product implementation. methodologies and tools or equivalent industry standards. 

  • Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task and the ability to implement complex projects consistent with established company and customer objectives. 

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to aid customers in improving current business/practice operations including standardization across IDN’s and enterprise level health systems. 

  • Demonstrates advanced problem solving, troubleshooting and system consultation as it relates to clinical workflow and best practice considerations and health system standardization. 

  • Install and support BD Medication Systems Infusion hardware and software solutions.  Significantly influences customer acceptance and utilization of BD Medication Systems Infusion products and services in multi-site and/or complex environments.   

  • Mentor team members on products, best practices, and customer education. 

  • Expected to act as a customer support resource when necessary. 

  • Master with BD Medication Systems Infusion products. 

  • Demonstrated Proficiency of MS Office 365 applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Current active nursing license required. 

  • Acute care hospital IDN/enterprise level health system experience required preferably with nursing informatics or leadership experience. 

  • Specific knowledge of BD business required. 

  • Driving requirements dictate that the candidate possess and maintain a valid driver license and be at least 21 years old. 

  • Home based position with travel.  Travel may range from 75 - 100%, overnight travel.  Position requires flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends.  Ability to work independently from home office. 

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.  This position may involve pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and lifting. 

  • Upon hire, must provide proof of, and maintain current immunizations and obtain additional immunizations appropriate for the facility which enables access to customer sites in order to perform essential job functions. Proofs must include: Hepatitis B, Influenza (current year), MMR (mumps, measles, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox) Annual TB/PPD (skin test), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis Covid-19.

  •  Must meet vendor credential requirements for assigned customer sites.

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience; advanced degree or certification preferred.
