This role sits within the CBA Retail Banking Services (RBS) Strategy function, which is accountable for defining the strategic roadmap for the Retail Bank and leading the sourcing and creation of new strategic partnerships to broaden the bank’s footprint and service offerings to ensure the Bank is optimally positioned to achieve its strategic vision. The team was instrumental in establishing CBA’s business partnerships with Amber Electric and More Telecom. 

The RBS Business Development (BD) & Partnerships team is responsible for identifying and determining the best approach for strategic partnerships and supporting the scaling and integration of existing partners including Amber Electric and More Telecom into the CBA ecosystem.

Do work that matters: 

The Senior Manager will report into the Chapter Lead (Executive Manager) and support the identification, evaluation and prioritisation of potential partners. The successful candidate will develop the business case and execution strategy and assist with partnership transactions including engaging with the partner, commercial arrangements and contract facilitation. The Senior Manager will also support the integration and scaling of our partnerships via our loyalty program (CommBank Yello) and different lines of business and enhancing our digital customer journeys including in the CommBank app.

Role Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and prioritise potential partners to broaden the bank’s footprint and service offerings.

  • Develop business case and execution strategies to ensure opportunities are aligned to RBS’ strategic priorities.

  • Assist with partnership transactions including engagement with the partner, commercial arrangements and contract facilitation.

  • Support strategic partnership initiatives and ensure key performance metrics are met.

  • Proactively source opportunities to scale partnerships and deliver value for customers by collaborating with teams across RBS and the Group and third parties.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholder groups.

  • Manage a high performing team and make decisions about resourcing and team capacity.

  • Produce formal papers including retail leadership and board papers and packs including recommendations.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have: 

  • 5+ years’ experience in strategy, business development, partnerships or similar, specifically with a strong focus on delivering value for customers.

  • Tertiary education in business, economics, science, engineering, law or similar fields.

  • Deep understanding of the retail banking industry.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly identify fundamental economic and business issues.

  • Ability to take ownership of complex strategic cases, with demonstrated structured problem-solving capability and hypothesis-led thinking and analysis.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrate superior judgement in screening and prioritising partnership and growth opportunities.

  • Excellent strategic thinking skills and a record of delivering growth initiatives focused on customer NPS.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently while leading high-performing teams.
