Position Overview:

Are you committed to helping cooperative retail owners become better resourced to meet growers most critical needs today and with a clear eye to the future? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Director Retail Growth for Land O’Lakes’ Agriculture Enterprise Team. In this role, you will partner closely with external retail owners’ executive leadership team and with internal senior leaders of Purina, Winfield United and Truterra to deliver tailored growth solutions that meet critical business needs of the agriculture industry. Responsibilities include:

  • Building high trust and consultative relationships with agriculture cooperative CEOs and their senior staff to identify growth opportunities and root issues impacting their retail business.
  • Acting as a strategic business consultant to drive growth within the cooperative system through a deep understanding of the business, industry knowledge and trends. 
  • Translating strategy into actionable plans by leading, designing, and executing tailored growth strategies to meet business objectives of leading ag retailers.
  • Collaborating across both the commercial business & service delivery teams to identify member-owner growth opportunities and areas where Land O’ Lakes can partner closer with its largest retail owners.  

Critical Skills and knowledge:

  • Broad experience in ag business leadership with an accomplished, well-rounded skill set encompassing strategic growth planning, financial performance indicators, organizational readiness and design, and executive leader effectiveness
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders both internally and externally, with strong business and financial acumen
  • Expertise in growth strategy, including strategic planning, mergers & acquisitions and board of director development
  • Proficient in marketing concepts, including segmentation, value proposition development and resource prioritization
  • Courage to challenge the status quo and drive thought leadership
  • Consulting mindset with the ability to turn strategic conversations into motivated, actionable plans
  • Ability to build authentic relationships as a trusted partner, viewed as a key partner to senior leadership teams internally and externally
  • Visible presence in the agriculture industry; actively engaged in industry and trade networks to maintain influence and relevance
  • Demonstrated interest in ag industry trends, innovation, and sustainability practices, with the ability to lead adoption and transition into emerging opportunities in retail

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related agricultural field
  • 10+ years of people leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of leading a business or having oversight of a P&L
  • The role requires the flexibility to engage in regular travel, with travel frequency depending on candidate’s location

Education and experience preferred:

  • Master’s degree in business or related agricultural field is strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of prior business consulting experience
  • Animal nutrition/feed background

Hiring salary is negotiable based on experience: $179,040 - $335,700
