Perform preventative maintenance, service and repair of vehicles, light-duty and heavy-duty equipment used in and for the maintenance and operation of Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary.

Essential Job Functions: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Maintain, diagnose, service, and repair Company vehicles, light-duty and heavy-duty equipment by using auto mechanic and welding skills, knowledge, experience, shop equipment and mechanic provided tools of the trade.  This applies to, but is not limited to: electrical systems, engine tune-ups and diagnosis, fluid levels and lubricants, air conditioning systems, brake systems, clutches, steering components, suspension, alternators, generators, starters, water and fuel pumps, carburetors, steering mechanisms, and mufflers and clamps.
  • Record all vehicle preventative maintenance, safety inspections and work performed on every vehicle or piece of equipment.
  • Use tire-mounting equipment to remove and replace vehicle and equipment tires.
  • Proactively provide vehicle status updates, problems encountered, progress made, and repair/maintenance completion timeline to department team members, customers, and management.
  • Operate and test vehicles and equipment to evaluate work performed before returned to customer for operation.
  • Ensure “next steps” are scheduled and performed (log, update, parts ordering, management notification, return appointment, and driver instruction).
  • Steam clean and wash vehicles and equipment as needed and to maintain safe ready for use state.
  • Take action to clean, wash, and maintain the shop, shop supplies, shop equipment, and tools for a safe work area and environment
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with customers and co-workers.
  • Request help when performing new, difficult or strenuous tasks.
  • Complete assigned paperwork in a timely manner, and in accordance with rules and regulations.
  • Work according to safety standards set by the Company, state, and federal regulations.  Report unsafe equipment, tools, machines, and practices to management.
  • Use proper lifting techniques, and use overhead hoist whenever possible.
  • Continually strive to improve through education and experience.  Maintain a continuous development plan and make steady, ongoing progress toward skill enhancement.
  • Report to work on time and maintain standard attendance.

Experience and Education:

  • ASE Certification or equivalent training and 3-5 years of automotive and equipment maintenance and repair experience
  • High School Diploma, or GED
  • One to two years of welding experience a plus

Special Skills

  • Skill in diagnosing automotive and equipment problems and performing repairs
  • Ability to proactively communicate and provide high level of customer service
  • Ability to use and operate vehicles and heavy-duty equipment
  • Ability to use and operate a variety of tools (hand, power, pneumatic, hydraulic)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License

Physical Requirements

Use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and welders; stand, walk, sit, lift and carry up to 75#, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl while performing essential functions; interact with all types of personalities within the Company.

Equipment / Machines Operated

Personal Protective Equipment, welders, hoists, wheel balancers, testing equipment, soldering guns, tire machines, back hoes, dump trucks, compressors, lathes, milling machines, shavers, torches, metal shears, presses, benders and rollers, air tools, saws, and drill presses; micrometers and precision measuring tools; and related hand and power tools.  Mechanic tool set provided by mechanic.

Compensation:

$26.50/hr – $31.00/hr
