Supplier selection – prototype, first build and production
• Manage the process of identifying multiple materials, fabrication methods, suppliers for a specific design need, including using lower cost global sources
• Design review facilitation and participation
• Manage and/or assist with the process of qualifying alternate manufacturing methods/suppliers
• Supplier assessment
• Provide specific, value-adding design input while design is in process
• Management, analysis & communication of data collected during the design and supplier selection
• Identify potential sole source conditions entering designs, proactively develop avoidance alternatives
• Measure & report on cost avoidance realized
• Technical design input
• Review of engineering documents to identify cost avoidance opportunities
• Collaboration with mechanical design functions to influence design solutions from a supplier perspective
• Supply base familiarity - OEM/Contract; power supplies, transformers, magnets, amplifiers, PDs, frames, sheet metal, machined parts etc
• Ability to visit suppliers globally and assess capability
• May be involved with any of our existing products, focus will be on new designs
• Interface with suppliers on a global basis, sharing pertinent specification information
