Essential Functions/Key Deliverables 

  • Manage, direct and oversee the activity of assigned direct reports
  • Train team members on tool room processes, procedures and equipment
  • Participate in cross-functional dialogue with plant staff to determine root cause of tool/machine failures; analyze and diagnose tool problems; expedite and coordinate corrective actions to minimize downtime
  • Generate reports related to tooling life and usage by machine
  • Forecast tooling needs based on production schedule
  • Create annual tooling budget for Can and End Departments
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost saving projects such as downgauging
  • Manage vendor relationships to develop tooling and process improvement
  • Manage and oversee shipments with customers and vendors
  • Responsible for scrap carbide returns
  • Oversee the measuring equipment to ensure calibration and maintenance and runs tool scans
  • Provide tooling support for other CANPACK locations as needed
  • Perform other tasks reasonably commensurate with the role, as directed

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent knowledge and experience required 
  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience using a grinding machine mill and lathe as well as basic machine calibration experience
  • Experience in the aluminum beverage can/end industry highly desirable; must have the ability to understand tooling progressions in the can/end manufacturing process
  • Must be able to read blueprints and drawings as well as experience working with various types of material
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, project management and technical skills 
  • Proven ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, including staff, vendors, and management 
  • Proven ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Able to prioritize and interpret work requests and work orders.
  • Proven ability to develop training material and provide training to management, tooling technicians, and others in the plant
  • Minimum intermediate computer skills required (Microsoft Office Suite)
