Software Development Engineer II

Introduction to team

Media Solutions (MeSo) Engineering builds the engine to propel our business forward. We strive to deliver products, platforms, and insights which are scalable, integrated, and innovative.

The goal of Media Solutions Tech team is to spearhead advertising products and services across many Expedia brands including BEX, Hotels.com, Portfolio Brands (COMET & Hotwire.com), Expedia Partner Sites (EPS), and Vrbo. We help our advertisers identify travellers on EG sites, target specific traveler criteria, and then deliver the most relevant products.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems.

  • Take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area.

  • Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.

  • Apply software design process, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.

  • Apply knowledge of database design to solve data requirements.

  • Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.

  • Think broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.

  • Execute tasks and/or provide data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology.

 

Experience and qualifications:  

  • 2+ years of experience in full stack development.

  • Bachelor's degree in related technical field or equivalent professional experience.

  • Solid knowledge of modern programming languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc). Good to have front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).

  • Familiarity in a couple of databases, API access patterns and integration. Solid understanding of REST, GraphQL and/or gRPC, as well as API testing.

  • Experience working in AWS and continuous delivery practices. Working knowledge of modern build systems (Jenkins, etc). Experience using GIT in a collaborative setting.

  • Ability to test, monitor, debug, fix issues within established SLAs, using testing and monitoring tools.

  • Strong knowledge on software design patterns, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts.

  • Able to understand moderately complex systems.
