Freese and Nichols is seeking an experienced Sr. Stormwater Engineer/Project Manager in Charlotte, NC.  As Sr. Stormwater Engineer/Project Manager, you will be a technical lead, advising and/or leading  design teams in stormwater study and design projects, for a variety of municipal clients in the Southeastern US and Texas  You will also have a primary role in client management and business development, helping to ensure we successfully deliver projects and win new projects with clients in the Charlotte, NC and South Carolina markets.  In summary, this is a “doer-seller” role in which you will provide senior leadership on a variety of stormwater projects while assisting with winning work.

  • Serve as technical advisor, with design calculations, design drawings, and specifications necessary for most economical method of construction. 
  • Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted engineering design standards and practices in the execution of design work that will meet the client’s needs and conform to firm standards.
  • Lead and review hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for a variety of projects including watershed master plans, regional flood mitigation projects, dam breach analyses, gray and green infrastructure projects, and FEMA floodplain studies either as the engineer-of-record or in close coordination with the engineer of record.
  • Familiar with a diverse range of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and design software packages including HEC-HMS, 1D, 2D and unsteady HEC-RAS, StormCAD, Infoworks, ArcGIS, SWMM, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Perform independent studies and prepare reports of results and conclusions in a clear, concise manner.  Direct other engineers and technicians on assigned tasks and review and evaluate their results.  Present and deliver final reports to clients.
  • Ability to work independently as well as plan and supervise work of teams of professionals and technicians. Maintain current tasks and projects within schedule and budget.
  • Provide input to senior leadership and coordinate across work groups as required
  • Investigate new methods and implement new ideas and/or procedures that will benefit the firm and its clients
  • Serve as Sr. Project Manager for large flood study or data management projects as applicable and workload allows
  • Coordinate as required with client to ensure clear communication, project success, and client satisfaction
  • Assist the regional Account Director with development of new clients and maintenance of existing client relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer Registration
  • 15+ years of experience including making independent decisions on engineering problems and methods
  • Experience in program level leadership

Preferred

  • 15+ years of experience with municipal stormwater projects.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
  • Experience managing large SW planning projects
  • Proven record of client development
