Key Position Details:

Job Description:

Oversees the strategy, design and performance of the anesthesia program. Provides operational leadership and clinical support paired with the leader of the Anesthesia Clinical Service Line. Acts as a liaison between anesthesia professionals and members of administration, clinical and medical staff.

Builds and leverages relationships throughout the care team and operations to create superior outcomes in patient care and service, standardizing operations and improving coordination across the anesthesia locations. Responsible for continually assessing business operations while planning to meet strategic goals.

May need travel to multiple sites based on span of control.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Strategic Management
    • Develops and lead collaborative partnerships across departments, and across the system to achieve results and improve performance.
    • Oversees adherence to incorporating the system's strategic plans into provider practice requirements.
    • Partners with directors of surgical services and other anesthetizing locations to create and ensure efficiency and optimize patient throughput
    • In partnership with stakeholders, facilitate and support the development of new or existing anesthesia programs with other hospitals within the organization
    • Creates infrastructure for change through effective leadership skills.
    • Champions new and innovative ideas to address business unit/system barriers and expand access to accommodate prioritized growth initiatives.
    • Participates in decision-making activities with executive management, hospital leadership, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Practice Management
    • Oversees compliance on policies and protocols for area of service(s).
    • Leads efforts to achieve quality goals and improve the quality of patient care and patient experience.
    • Oversees the recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of high talent advanced practice providers and staff to accomplish business goals and objectives.
    • Provides leadership and mentoring opportunities for team of CRNAs and other direct reports.
    • Communicates business and operational goals with the anesthesia team.
    • Ensures performance of team, as well as individual team members, are reviewed on an on-going basis.
    • Oversees, as appropriate, any review of the necessity, appropriateness, or quality of healthcare services rendered to a patient.
    • Analyzes and act on employee engagement and well-being data.
  • Financial Management
    • In partnership with the anesthesia practice manager, develops and maintains budget and financials for the department.
    • Achieves goals on or below budget, through effective use of resources (information, financial, materials and staff), and be able to speak to any existing variances.
    • Executes on strategies to generate revenue, manage expenses and improve operations.
    • Partners with administration and finance to evaluate and improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of the anesthesia program.
    • Shares insights and adapt quickly to changing business needs.
    • Demonstrates sound business judgment, while encouraging appropriate risk taking.
  • Clinical
    • Provides clinical anesthesia care, as necessary, in accordance with CRNA job description and/or CRNA clinical privileges.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accredited Nursing Program
  • Master’s Degree Nurse Anesthetist Program
  • 5+ years CRNA experience
  • 3+ years supervisory level experience in healthcare setting


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse-MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
  • Registered Nurse Anesthetist-MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
