This Systems Engineering position is an engineering support role on a National Security Space (NSS) Program in the Tactical Space Systems Division at Northrop Grumman Space Systems located in Dulles, VA. The job responsibilities will be as an individual-contributor and deliverable/product lead within a multi-disciplinary engineering team. Successful candidates will perform traditional Systems Engineering functions, including requirements synthesis and flow-down, verification/validation planning, system trades study support, systems analysis, coordination of design efforts, and management of technical budgets & interface definitions. The application of these systems engineering functions will be in the context of fault management, system autonomy, and mission operations, particularly as it relates to the operation of a proliferated autonomous space system.

Tasks may also include designing, implementing, and validating Mission Operations plans for proliferated systems and identifying opportunities for the automation of traditionally manual tasks. The candidate must be knowledgeable in spacecraft subsystem design, spacecraft testing, flight software best practices, and particularly mission operations and operational readiness events. Candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities, such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies and may include authoring sections for both. Presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to either technical or nontechnical audiences is required. Experience interfacing with technical, customer, and program management, including business leaders, is highly desired.

Duties:

  • Evaluate design documentation and verification for compliance with customer and internally derived requirements

  • Evaluate design documentation to ensure feasibility and application of previous lessons learned

  • Develop Mission Operations Plans for proliferated autonomous systems

  • Proactively identify tasks and procedures as candidates for automation

  • Evaluate design documentation to provide evidence for requirement verification

  • Support mission operation tasks for Launch, Operations, and Disposal

  • Evaluate System Level test results and generate reports & review packages

  • Evaluate payload interfaces and perform feasibility studies for integration of payloads to existing systems

  • Provide support to selected elements of the program Systems Engineering Team

  • Support and deliver SE Products and other deliverables, with a focus on mission success

  • Develop/implement and communicate solutions to routine Engineering problems

  • Contribute to the technical tasks supporting the program

  • Provide systems engineering support for technical reviews

  • Write status and technical performance reviews, analyses and reports

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 5 years of applicable experience, or Masters degree with 3 years of applicable experience.

  • Senior Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 8 years of applicable experience or Masters degree with 6 years of applicable experience

  • Experience in Systems Engineering for mission critical applications

  • Mission and/or vehicle systems engineering experience

  • Mission Operations Experience, particularly with Military Satellites.

  • Software coding or scripting experience

  • Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret/SCI level clearance at time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Failure analysis or fault management technical experience

  • Experience with Systems Engineering process

  • Experience defining requirements & interfaces

  • Understanding of spacecraft integration & test, launch, and mission operations

  • Experience developing verification documentation

  • Experience with architecture development

  • Familiarity with electrical & computer systems

  • Familiarity with command and telemetry database

  • Experience with Northrop Grumman Process and Procedures is highly desired

Salary Range: $107,300.00 - $160,900.00Salary Range 2: $133,000.00 - $199,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
