We are looking for an Environmental & Regulatory Advisor (Air Emissions) to support the enterprise process development, implementation and assurance for regulatory compliance and environmental management. Minimum requirements:  

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field

  • 3-7 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, environmental management and related business processes

  • Current knowledge of Provincial (Alberta) and Federal policies, regulations, directives, and acts (specifically Alberta CEMS Code, Alberta Air Monitoring Directive, Multi-Sector Air Pollutants Regulation, CEPA National Pollutant Release Inventory reporting);

  • Direct experience in calculating and coordinating air emissions reporting

  • Experience in the mining and/or oil and gas industry

  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, analytical and conflict management skills which enable you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups;

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, as well as Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and submit regulatory compliance submissions primarily for air emissions, but can include water, wildlife and other areas;

  • Timely completion of air emissions reporting deliverables such as provincial and federal emissions inventories and routine monitoring reports, to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal and provincial air requirements;

  • Develop and maintain quality assurance processes and quantification methodology documentation for air emissions regulatory compliance programs;

  • Entering and updating information in Suncor’s compliance management tool- Enablon

  • Maintain awareness of issues and emerging trends related to air emissions through positive engagements with provincial (Alberta) and federal regulators;

  • Improve internal business processes related to data and technology solutions in the environment and regulatory monitoring, data collection and reporting

  • Identify opportunities to improve data management, automation of reporting data and compilation;

  • Take a collaborative and strategic approach to environmental and regulatory risk management through partnering with various areas of the business.

 

Location and other key details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs

  • This role requires travel to various Suncor locations on an intermittent basis.
