This position oversees Smithfield Foods’ compliance with all customer requests and manages the involvement in all customer portals.  This position ensures that all customer requests from any business area, or directly from the customer, are answered in a timely manner and in accordance with all government regulations, and in adherence to Smithfield Foods’ communication policies and programs. 

Responsibilities

Customer/Business/Sales Requests:

  • Provides documents, assistance, and guidance for any customer requests made directly by the customer, business, sales, or any other business area according to Smithfield Foods’ communication policies and programs.

  • Troubleshoots customer issues for specifications, COAs, and functionality with R&D and Operations.

  • Works with necessary business sector to gather information and works with suppliers/customers to properly resolve incidents.

  • Upload documents into all web-based customer portals as needed to remain in compliance with customer’s requirements.

  • Maintenance of an accurate record of all customer portals and required documentation.

Customer Specification Requests:

  • Works closely with R&D, QA, Regulatory, and suppliers/customers in creating and maintaining ingredient and packaging specifications. Participates in raw material analysis and evaluation as needed.

  • Maintains supplier documentation. Requests and maintains raw material supplier specifications and required technical information including nutrition, allergen, etc. Assists Technical Services Departments in requesting detailed information to support product labeling and regulatory compliance if needed.

  • Completion of FSQA portions of new customer specifications to be submitted to customers, business, and sales.

  • Updating of current customer specifications to be submitted to customers, business, and sales.

Sales/Customer Letters and Documents:

  • Updates customer letters annually and as needed to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

  • Complete any customer or sales documents, forms, etc. as requested.

Regulatory and Administrative Duties:

  • Complete, create, update, and submit regulatory licenses, fees, grants, and other documents to ensure compliance

Other duties as assigned:

  • Cross training in other vendor, supplier, customer, and/or co-packer duties as needed to support the department.

  • Performs supplier/customer on-site visits and audits when needed.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of supplier quality programs and risk management programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Food Science or related science field and 2 years’ experience of quality/food safety experience or regulatory compliance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2 years’ experience in labeling, spec writing, or web-based portal management preferred

  • Strong computer skills using Excel spreadsheet and Word as well as Microsoft Teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
