JOB SUMMARY--POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW
 

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in Professor Alexander Pak’s research group in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to a research program focused on (i) the development of advanced coarse-grained modeling approaches combined with machine learning techniques and (ii) their application to self-organizing biomolecular systems. The successful candidate is expected to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with other members of the group and external collaborators.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct theoretical/computational research to improve the generalizability and transferability of low-resolution coarse-grained models for biomolecules

  • Investigate strategies to analyze and control the self-organization of biomolecules (e.g., bacterial proteins)

  • Implement open source code for coarse-grained modeling and simulation

  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-review publications

  • Present research at conferences and symposiums

  • Assist in preparing reports for funding agencies

  • Assist in writing research grants

  • Serve as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biophysics, Materials Science, Applied Mathematics, or related fields. All PhD requirements should be completed by the time work commences.

  • Previous research experience in one or more areas of molecular simulations, high-performance computing, multiscale modeling, machine learning, self-assembly/self-organization, and statistical mechanics.

  • Programming experience, e.g., Python, C++, Bash.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in coarse-grained modeling, enhanced sampling, biomolecular simulations, and/or machine learning force-fields will be preferred but not required.

JOB DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS                                

  • Must be able to re-locate and work in-person in the laboratory.
     

Annual Salary Rate and Benefits

$60,000
