System Applications Engineer, Embedded Software & Hardware  

The Automotive Audio & Networking (ANN) team partner with customers worldwide to deliver best in class technical solutions for the automotive market. We are looking to add an additional Systems Application Engineer to the growing ANN Applications team, focusing on a wide range of automotive network applications. As a member of the team, you will work directly with automotive OEM’s, Tier 1’s and internal teams to support their product development and overcome any technical obstacles from product concept to production. The ANN team are responsible for all of Analog Devices & network solutions in the automotive market – A2B, C2B and the breakthrough, 10BASE-T1S, E2B product. 

The Role  

The Automotive Audio & Networking group has identified the need for a highly motivated and experienced Embedded Systems & Software Engineer to support customers with their deployment of ADI based network automotive solutions. The Embedded Systems Engineer, is a key member of the team working on a breakthrough Automotive Cabin Electronics product within the Audio & Networking group. The Systems Application Engineer will collaborate closely with customers and others to develop product solutions, be a critical contributor to developing the products portfolio, winning business, and accelerating revenue.  

· Develop your technical expertise such that you are considered by colleagues and customers as a, E2B, A2B & C2B applications expert. 

· Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (Marketing, Design, Test & Evaluation, Field Applications/Market Segment) leading engagement and delivering to our customers. 

· Engaging with the customer base and field teams, to clearly understand the key challenges to be solved, analysis and drive to resolution, provide customer on-site training as required 

Create tools that make it faster and easier for our customers to design-in our products. 

· Translate the customer problem statements into product solutions. Think expansively and use a wide lens when solving problems. 

· Support customers through the product development process, from concept to product launch. Debug and solve customers’ problems, reproduce customer issues to be resolved on the bench in the application lab. 

· Identify emerging technology trends and translate these into product proposals that drive the development of ADI’s business and technology roadmaps. 

· Build and share technical & business expertise across ADI’s applications teams. 

Providing system expertise to IC design teams 

Develop proof-of-concept demos, system prototypes, and software tools (e.g., GUIs) to enable software integration and evaluation of ANN products in customers’ systems 

Design, develop and debug automotive embedded software and ADI system software solutions, embedded driver development / modifications / enhancements. 

Development of software to enable Customer System Demos, EMC test platforms, Customer use case investigations.  

Proficient at programming in embedded C within a limited resource environment, C++ and Phyton 

Software development lifecycle knowledge, unit / functional / system test, DevOps,  

Experience with microcontrollers (e.g., ARM processors), and low-level communication peripherals (including SPI, I2C, TDM, UART, CAN, etc.) 

Operation system knowledge, Linux, AutoSAR as will as bare metal implementations 

Assist in building of event demos and reference designs particularly in areas like edge sensing and GUI development. 

Experience using microcontroller development tools 

Support customers with the use of drivers and use case development. 

 

The Person 

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification with 8+ years’ experience. 

Excellent debugging / analytical skills, excellent communication skills essential 

Love of learning and problem-solving and enthusiastic about all things to do with Technology 

The candidate is expected to employ solutions thinking and have demonstrated proficiency in electronic circuit design, embedded software development. A strong background of hands-on technical applications work is preferred. 

Showing an ability to solve complex problems, debug systems and replicate/deliver solutions on bench in hardware and software. For example driver development  

Experience in developing/troubleshooting low-level drivers and hardware integration for interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, etc. 

Each day will bring new and differing challenges. 

Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded systems is a plus 

Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Knowledgeable in best coding practices and quality attributes of embedded software. 

As the job requires constant communication with customers, it will, therefore, necessitate travel within Europe as well as the US, and Asia.  

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas will make you stand out, but isn’t required 

You don’t mind ambiguity and thrive in a multifaceted & cross-functional team with a start-up culture. 

o Automotive or Industrial system design, processes, and platforms (ASPICE, AUTOSAR, etc.) 

o Functional Safety (ISO 26262, or similar) 

o Cyber Security ( ISO/SAE 21434 or similar) 

o Knowledge of communication protocols & interfaces (CAN, LIN, and Ethernet protocols, etc). 

o System modelling and simulations (Matlab, Simulink, Spice, etc..) 

o Test and measurement experience for mixed-signal ICs and circuits
