Lead and manage reimbursement strategies to gain and maintain market access for Pfizer medicines and vaccines. This will be achieved through strong working relationships within with the Access & Value ANZ team, Public Affairs and Policy teams, Government, Pharmac, Health NZ and other key stakeholders.

What you will achieve.

The Access and Value Senior Manager will have highly developed technical and commercial skills, a deep knowledge of New Zealand medicines access policies and processes, couple with strong business acumen.


The role involves working across Pfizer, both locally and globally, engaging independently and effectively at all levels. The role must also build and maintain external relationships with consultants, PHARMAC and other stakeholders across the health system.

How you will achieve it

  • Lead Pfizer’s relationship and negotiations with PHARMAC to establish and optimise funding for new medicines and vaccines, and continued access for medicines already funded by PHARMAC. This includes leading strategy for health technology assessment submissions to PTAC and the development of commercial proposals.
  • Collaborate with the ANZ Commercial Leadership, the ANZ Access & Value Lead, Local, Regional and Global teams to generate reimbursement strategies and funding submissions for the New Zealand business units to optimize price and access for Pfizer products and drive business value.
  • Provide expert advice to Commercial Leadership and cross- functional Teams by providing health outcome and health economic advice on reimbursement and pricing matters, and other relevant activities, to facilitate well informed -decision making and planning.
  • Monitor the payer and access environment and anticipate the opportunities and risks associated with new and changing policies and developments, proactively communicating advice across the business.
  • Lead pricing maintenance activities including price lists, annual and ad hoc reviews.
  • Represent Pfizer externally at policy, advocacy and industry interest forums.

Must have.

  • Tertiary qualifications in medicine, pharmacy, life sciences, or health economics
  • A strong understanding of the New Zealand health environment and the Pharmac model
  • A high level of experience and competence in developing clinical and commercial proposals, and in navigating and negotiating Government funding.
  • Experience in health economics, preparing submissions for health technology assessment and proposals for and negotiating tenders and contracting
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience, either working within the industry or in pharmaceutical benefits (such as insurance or government).
  •  Ability to lead and prioritise multiple complex projects with proven ability to assess feasibility, lead strategy and develop and deliver high quality content.
  • Proven track record working effectively in cross functional teams, working seamlessly across multiple teams and levels of leadership, both locally and globally.
  • The role requires a high level of competency in literacy (written and verbal communication) and numeracy skills, a comprehensive understanding of health economics, market access and pricing, and an ability to understand and synthesize complex information and data.
