Purpose of the role:

RELX is seeking a Group Reporting Manager to join our central Group Finance Team based in our London head office on The Strand. You will be responsible for the high standard and timely delivery of various financial reporting, primarily for external reporting purposes, and to support RELX’s performance management and decision making.

You will also work closely with the RELX Group Financial Controller and have regular interaction with the RELX CFO. The key objectives include review of consolidated annual and interim financial statements (to UK, US and the Netherlands listing requirements), review of UK, US and Dutch statutory accounts and other regulatory reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will also be the point of contact for technical accounting queries and assessing the impact of regulatory requirements on the RELX group.

The role involves interaction with several senior finance team members including our business area financial controllers and central functions such as Tax, Treasury, M&A, FP&A and Company Secretariat.

The ideal candidate would have a willingness to learn and progress, develop new skills, and leadership potential.

Location:

London, The Strand

On average 2-3 days a week will be expected in the office with this increasing if required during busier reporting periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Review of annual and interim consolidated financial statements (to UK, US and the Netherlands listing requirements)
  • Project management of the 20-F report and filing process
  • Preparation of quarterly Audit Committee papers
  • Preparation and review of technical accounting memos and providing support to business areas on technical accounting issues e.g., Acquisitions and disposals
  • Ownership of the RELX IFRS accounting policy manual
  • Management of venture investment fund accounting, goodwill impairment review, share-based payments, pensions, and certain other key group accounting matters
  • Co-ordination of global statutory accounts process including regular reporting to the Group CFO on status
  • Review of annual UK head office statutory financial statements in line with FRS 101
  • Review of annual US and Dutch statutory consolidated financial statements in line with IFRS
  • Build and develop relationships with finance staff within operational divisions and head office functions
  • Project management of external audit requests and resolution
  • Ownership of UK Payment practice reporting for RELX (UK) Limited including regular reporting to the Group CFO on status for applicable entities across the group
  • Assistance with other ad hoc projects including technical accounting

Qualifications and experience:

  • Fully qualified accountant: CA/ACA or equivalent
  • Qualified or post qualified experience with Big Four accounting firm
  • Minimum three years’ post-qualified with manager experience, primarily in the audit practice 
  • Highly organised, ability to multi-task and re-prioritise workload
  • Experience in working with UK / US listed complex multi-national companies
  • Strong technical IFRS expertise essential
  • SOx experience preferred, but not essential
  • Experience of managing a team and senior stakeholders
  • Proactive approach and ability to challenge the status quo to look for continuous improvements
  • Ability to critically examine, identify patterns and challenge information from a variety of sources
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Flexibility and “can do” attitude and willing to learn
  • Oracle FCCS consolidation experience preferred, but not essential – willingness to learn systems essential
