Citi established its Citi Data Governance Policy and Standard (CDGP) to govern and manage data.  It sets forth the minimum requirements for the implementation of a consistent and controlled approach to create and use data as a critical corporate asset. The Policy also establishes a Governance Model for Data Management, Governance and Quality across Citi.  All Citi employees, contractors, and personnel with responsibility for the ownership, production, and consumption of data must manage data in accordance with the CDGP.

This position is in the US Personal Banking Business, managing the execution of its data quality controls function managed by the USPB Data Capabilities, Controls & Analytics (DCCA) team. 

Summary

Your goal is to maximize the trustworthiness and usage of data across the business(s) by managing and monitoring Data Quality (DQ).

This role is responsible for managing a team of resources who will perform data quality activities such as data profiling, building and executing DQ rules, monitoring DQ metrics and exception reporting and accountable for data-related issue management and remediation efforts.

You will partner with Data Owner, Data Stewards, Business Process Owners, and Data Custodians and other key data-related roles including Technology.

Main responsibilities

Functional

  • Manage the execution of data quality activities such as identifying Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data profiling, identify gaps in DQ rules and guide definition of DQ rules, implementation of DQ rules such that data is ‘Fit for Purpose’ having the necessary level of Accuracy, Comprehensiveness, Timeliness and Consistency to meet its identified purpose.

  • Managing includes project planning, prioritizing requirements and activities, seeking diverse points of view for optimal solutions, understanding, resolving or escalating issues and concerns and influencing team members to deliver on time and within budget.

  • In partnership with the business, identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data quality rules and controls and support their implementation.

  • Collaborate with the Data Governance Office, Chief Data Office (CDO), Consumer Business Operations and Risk Controls (CBORC) and IT to identify, recommend and/or implement processes and technologies that enhance or support data quality.

  • Determine and monitor data quality metrics and identify and implement improvement opportunities.

  • Communicate data decisions and ensure business users understand impacts of such decisions to their lines of business.

  • Support root-cause analysis for data defects, and support and promote its resolution.

  • Identify Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and set up a security framework for their data domains.

  • Continuously identifies or supports opportunities to streamline and simplify the execution of the Citi Data Governance Policy (CDGP).

  • Serve as a trusted partner, collaborate and communicate frequently with Data Owners, Process Owners, Business Architects, Data Custodians, Technology, Chief Data Office (CDO) and Data Governance Office (DGO).

  • Management

  • Manage a team of data quality professional to ensure adherence and execution to CDGP and Citi’s data standards.

  • Be a thought leader for DQ. Share best practices.  Identify ways to simplify and enhance ways to adhere to CDGP.

  • Be a trusted advisor and partner to the supporting functions and stakeholders.

  • Present status updates, issues / challenges / risks and solutions to senior management, stakeholders and partners in a succinct manner to drive decision-making and actions.

  • Lead meetings to solve issues / challenges / risks by factoring input from partners and diverse points of view.

  • Promote ‘data as an asset’ and drive culture change to make the organization ‘data savvy’ via lunch-n-learn sessions and equivalent forums in partnership with Data Owners, Process Owners, Data Custodians, CDO, etc.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree is preferred, but not required.

  • At least 10+ years of combined experience in banking and financial services industry and data governance. 

    • Experience includes active role / participation in one or more data related initiatives such as data profiling, DQ, DQ metrics and reporting, data-related issue management and remediation efforts, process ~ data mapping, developing or supporting standards / policies.

  • Experience with data management processes and tools and applications, including process mapping and lineage toolsets (e.g. Collibra).

  • Working knowledge of structured/unstructured databases, data modeling, SQL and Agile methodology.

  • Led initiatives within a line of business and across the enterprise

  • Demonstrated relationship management and advisory skills with sponsors, key stakeholders, partners and team members.

  • Good presentation skills, business and technical writing, and verbal communication skills to support decision-making and actions.

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to recognize and comprehend complex data governance issues, policies, regulatory requirements and industry information affecting the business environment.

  • Willingness to pitch-in with other team members. Entrepreneurial spirit to identify problems or challenges and solve them.

Management

  • Experience managing teams across diverse locations

  • Actively managed various aspects of data-related initiatives including planning.

  • Led efforts to solve issues / challenges / risks with input for solutions from cross-functional team members and diverse viewpoints.

  • Coached or mentored direct team members and indirect team members.

  • Regularly provided timely status updates to management and stakeholders.
