Caterpillar Inc. seeks Control System Engineer at its facility located at 2427 Rench Road, Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Job Description: Conceive and provide practical control system product design applications using complex technical principles. Create concepts and direct the design and development of complex engineering projects that provide superior integrated control system designs. Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex integrated control system engineering projects. Delegate portions of projects to other engineers and lead and coordinate the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort. Prepare development plans and responsible for meeting scheduled dates. Act as the development team leader by interacting with Plant locations and various engineering departments. Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products. Coordinate product tests with proven design and prototype build-up and test areas. Guide other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met. Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems. Use technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem-resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Work with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls. Keep abreast of the latest technological advancements in the control system area, prepare design concepts, and develop unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage. Keep abreast of emerging technologies such as MATLAB /Simulink, co-simulation, neural networks, adaptive control, and self-learning machines.

Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and two (2) years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Software Engineer, or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and one (1) year of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Software Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Reverse engineering control software into software specifications; (2) Developing complex embedded control software requirements to meet requirements; (3) Developing comprehensive validation test plans based on software requirements and software design; (4) HIL and SIL testing, and automation testing; and (5) Electronic hardware and embedded control systems, software interactions, and development.
