Associate Director, Resource Modeling Specialist
 

Role Description

Portfolio and Resource Management (P&RM) enables decision making and insights for BMS stakeholders. The core responsibility of a resource modeling specialist is to partner with Development Centers, R&D Functions, Strategy & Planning functions, Finance, and IT to generate meaningful resource related insights that inform and influence portfolio decisions. This role will be working directly with our internal stakeholders to build upon existing capabilities and bring novel approaches and ensure our tools and methodologies are consistently aligned with functional operating models.  The leader will collaborate with stakeholders assist in predicting the resource needs of a constantly evolving global portfolio to ensure we can execute the pipeline with both speed and efficiency. 
 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Proactively Build influential relationships with key R&D functional leaders to develop solutions, reports, dashboards etc. to answer questions related to demand and capacity management.  Ensure resource implications and risks are integrated into key governance processes.
  • Partner with stakeholders in the execution of monthly or quarterly reporting deliverables, annual budget planning activities and other ad-hoc requests
  • Work with P&RM and other R&D functions and cross functional leadership to design and implement efficient, integrated processes to link study planning and feasibility, country/site planning, and predicted operational risks into resource forecasts
  • Work with Business partners and IT to ensure systems and tools effectively support our resource modeling approach and make sure reports and deliverables are consistently accurate and meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Ensure planning inputs such as templates, drivers, algorithm design are actively managed to represent and evolve to meet organizational needs. 
  • Maximize existing and build novel approaches and capabilities to answer critical strategic planning questions, frequently sensitive and of high business priority and impact.  Work with functions and project teams to assess needs associated with new development scenarios.
  • Seek, develop, and apply best RM practices regarding FTE modeling and forecasting, headcount management, time actuals capture and interpretation.  Share knowledge and subject matter expertise to develop RM aptitude amongst team members. 
  • Lead and improve the accuracy of the resource and capacity management capability across R&D functions so that all functions and resources are modeled to enable the business to make informed decisions on the current book of work (development project and non-drug projects) as well as new opportunities.

Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate (BA/BS) degree required, MS, MBA, PhD, or other degree in life science or quantitative field preferred. 
  • Eight years of professional experience in the life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated strength in assessing business-critical needs, developing business strategy, translating strategy into operating models and actionable plans, managing program execution, and delivering measurable business value
  • Strong experience with business process design and performance measurement
  • Experience driving cross functional teams towards goals and decisions, including identifying barriers, facilitating solutions, and escalating risks.
  • Industry leading experience with resource and capacity management specifically in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Full understanding of functions, roles and major work packages associated with each phase of drug development / lifecycle management and the ability to translate that work into project and portfolio level forecasts
  • Capable of bringing structure to vaguely defined problems while using creative yet pragmatic problem-solving approaches and execution management
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships and influence, and drive organizational engagement
  • Strong understanding of project, portfolio, resource, cost, and budget management
  • The ability to extract and communicate meaningful qualitative and quantitative insights from raw data using modern BI tools (Spotfire, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience using and building algorithms and business processes in PPM tools (Planisware, MS Project, etc.)
