Job Description

Global OEM Technical Consultant - Battery

Role Purpose

The OEM Technical Consultant is responsible for product and technology adoption with partner OEM's in support of the Rockwell Automation OEM sales program. This role provides a foundation for Rockwell Automation's reputation of excellence and knowledge of automation technology. The Global OEM Technical Consultant has extensive domain knowledge of the industry and applications being served along with in-depth knowledge of the Rockwell Automation products, technology and system architecture in order to provide domain level expertise consulting.

Position Summary

  • Deliver technical assistance directly to battery OEM customers as part of a targeted sales and adoption effort. Engage in application integration, proof of concept demonstrations, and product selection/sizing to promote Rockwell Automation hardware and software. Support sales and proposal presentations and assist with ongoing account activities, identifying additional product/service opportunities within customer organizations.
  • Executes Proof of Concepts, control system design review, application programming consulting and assistance, technical demonstration and presentation, focused application training, application notes development, application library code development, startup engineering support and Factory Acceptance Test Support.
  • Participates in the development of application library code and templates that can be shared with the Rockwell Automation global technical community.
  • Uses existing library code as appropriate for OEM developments to leverage existing Intellectual Property.
  • Assists in transitioning OEM activity to local Rockwell/ Distributor / SI OEM Technical Consultants for ongoing support.
  • Establishes a reputation for excellence and knowledge of applied automation technology.
  • Ensures through familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental).

Job-related Competencies

  • Technical Expertise : High-level expertise in automation products relevant to the battery sector.
  • Industry Knowledge : Intermediate understanding of the battery industry, OEM drivers, and battery production processes, along with a basic proficiency in market research, project management, customer relationship management, and strategic sales approaches.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Additional business related degree/experience preferred.
  • 5 years of prior experience in electrical controls design, field service, or commercial engineering experience within an industrial automation environment.
  • Strong applied systems knowledge in main focus and related areas.
  • Experience applying Rockwell Automation core products including PAC/PLC, Operator Interface, Communications, I/O, Presence sensing, Safety, and visualization software.
  • Knowledge of Drives and Motion.
  • Experience with troubleshooting control systems and Industrial Automation applications.
  • Industry and application experience in any of the following areas of automated industrial machinery: packaging, robotics, material handling, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Advanced knowledge of the application of Rockwell Automation core products and systems: Integrated Architecture, Kinetix motion control, PowerFlex drives, ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers, FactoryTalkView visualization, I/O platforms, communication networks (Ethernet/IP, ControlNet and DeviceNet), Safety products / Safety Controllers, and related Software products.
  • Experience and background in discrete machine controls engineering development in an OEM environment. Machinery applications experience using servo motion and standard VFD.
