Overview of Role
Reporting to the Regional Head of Operations or to the Team Leader, this person will be part of the Specialty Ores operations team. He or she will ensure that scheduling and day-to-day operations for the Specialty Ores desk are running smoothly and that any problems are flagged at an early stage to mitigate any potential risks.
Main Responsibilities
- Report required information from Operations processes to Team Leader or Regional Head of Operations, as part of core activities, on a daily basis. Complete any other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by Team Leader or Regional Head of Operations
- Acts as a reliable point of contact for routine internal and external inquiries on the desk. Maintain close communications with customers and upon necessity informing customers of problems and issues risen from fulfilment of contracts concluded with them. Maintain close communications with Traders and relevant teams to ensure smooth cooperation; proactively offering creative solutions to trading team.
- Serves as a point of contact for internal or external issues or disputes for the team. Participate in regular team meetings helping to ensure that any operational issues (internal and external) are addressed and resolved. Provide team coverage as workload's demand.
- Familiar with cargo shipment procedures, policies and industry standards, shipment regulations, truck, rail, and maritime technical terminology, as well as relevant transport laws.
- Manage cargo inventory and operations interacting with ports/terminals, agents, cargo inspectors, and international legal restrictions on vessels/trucks/rail used for cargo shipments.
- Optimize trader strategies by utilizing knowledge of product movement and relationships with external parties, while accounting for the dynamics of delivery and supply, and resolving and communicating any transport issues that arise with traders.
- Experienced in trade recaps review, confirmations, contract review and execution, Able to coordinate and confirm the issuance of Letters of credit by internal Credit group as needed along with the collection and presentation of required documentation under a documentary letter of credit. Proven analytical mindset with regard to product movement reconciliation, along with the capacity to facilitate Loss Control investigations
- Maintain an accurate and up to date account of storage positions, Product movement positions, review all accruals in the system, ensuring proper costs have been booked against each trade / strategy or storage facility. Reconciliation of month end inventory explaining/correcting any differences accordingly. Communicate and work closely with traders on forward inventory projections.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by Team Leads and Regional Head of Operations.
Profile
The individual should have the following experience:
- Minimum of 1-5 years of Commodities (Dry Bulk or Metals preferred) Operational or relevant experience in a trading environment.
- Knowledge of multiple commodities, components and grade specifications, bulk product, storage, inspection procedures, and product regulatory compliance.
- Complete understanding of cargo transport operations including but not limit on dryfreight, airfreight, rail, truck and assurance that delivering or lifting modes of transport will comply with the various load port or discharge port restrictions, notification and filing of appropriate Import and Export documents, Cargo and transport insurance calculation and tracking for Cargo shipments
- Pro-active and able to take initiative to complete tasks
- Maintain a positive work environment within the team.
- English written and oral skills, ability to understand Mandarin (to liaise with Mandarin speaking associates)
