The Android Network Framework Engineer will primarily be involved in designing, developing, and validating one or more GSMA/3GPP standards-based communication protocols as Android’s framework components. These frameworks could be Android or a combination of Android and C/C++ “system libraries” (with JNI). Example communication protocols include (however are not limited to) IMS, VoLTE, ViLTE, RCS, TS-43, VoWiFi, etc. Example frameworks include (however, are not limited to) the Telephony and Connectivity framework, the Radio Interface Layer, etc.
Work closely with Mobile Network Operator Device and Network teams in developing and/or analyzing device-side requirements for new or enhanced communication protocols/features based on feasibility studies, design/architectural considerations, and user experience considerations.
Closely work with other local and HQ Samsung Teams to plan and execute the realization of these requirements.
Work closely with other teams to identify and fix all bugs reported and ensure that the frameworks/libraries they create are robust and complete.
Manage and oversee a small team of contractors by creating and tracking their work assignments for activities like validation testing.
Skills and Qualifications
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent area.
6+ years of experience in providing mobile development technical leadership including architecture, design and code reviews, development, code quality management
Proficient in Android/Java/Kotlin application as well as Framework development and debugging
Strong experience in analyzing Android’s logcat, dumpstate etc, and modem logs
Experience in 3GPP and GSMA based Technologies (e.g. ePDG, 4G/5G, GSMA TS.43, IMS, IR92/IR94, and/or RCS etc)
Working experience with USA Mobile Network Operators and knowledge of their requirements and test plans.
Excellent interpersonal skills and great team player.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Execute strong risk management practices
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify risks, issues, and contingency plans
Plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments and projects.
Ability to navigate across complex organizational and cultural environments.
Work independently and in team environments to achieve personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.
Able to work across various time zones with overseas R&D teams
