What you will do:
The Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible to contribute to the global engineering team through lowering product cost through generating, maintaining and driving cost reduction projects that are plant and/or globally applicable. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will continuously research new technologies, materials, assembly methodologies and recognize changes to Form/Fit and Function. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will also support the global engineering team through various global engineering tasks and factory support. These tasks require very strong communication skills and the ability to clearly and consistently present information to engineering teammates, engineering managers, product management and manufacturing.
How you will do it:
Maintains understanding of theories, concepts, technical principles, and processes related to mechanical aspects of chillers
Generate VAVE ideas across NA Plants while maintaining detailed records/Pipeline.
Create VAVE Idea generation events at NA Plants.
Has proficiency in mechanical design and will be able to conceptualize and recommend cost savings ideas for product implementation
Meet with vendors to Analize cost reduction opportunities
Work closely with manufacturing by observing product and communicating with assemblers and operators on the shop floor on a regular basis while maintaining a cost reduction backlog
Creates business cases that clearly show the proposed ideas and savings by reviewing bill of materials, working with procurement and manufacturing teams
Contributes to the on-time completion of projects and regularly reports on the status and progression of projects
Analyzes, designs, modifies and/or troubleshoots mechanical sub-components and sub-systems based on test data, bill of materials and existing documentation
Possesses and continues to maintain knowledge of manufacturing processes and applies the philosophy of designing to standard manufacturing process
Strives for continuous improvement and teamwork in a global product development environment
Closely works with plant controller to approve projects on a regular basis
Occasional international and mostly domestic travel may be required (Max. of 20%)
What we look for:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related science
Minimum 8 years’ experience in a related field
Ability to work independently and possesses a high drive for success
Needs to be self-driven and highly motivated
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Strong product development background in a manufacturing environment would be a plus
Proficient with Microsoft Office
