About This Opportunity 

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will lead the communication and engagement activities related to the final year of EQUS. The role will be responsible for implementing strategies that define and celebrate the legacy and impact of the Centre, including our core achievements, our research capabilities and expertise, and the value of quantum technologies and the centre to the broader community.

An important component of this national role is to work with our five partner universities to ensure a continuing pipeline of news and showcasing of the centre's achievements via a range of communications channels (e.g. website, media, social media, newsletters). This role will contribute to the production of key corporate publications including our final Annual Report, a legacy report and produce videos and other digital assets for publication and distribution related the centre's legacy. The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will also lead the development of a legacy website and support our partner universities to deliver a series of showcase legacy events in May 2025.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Develop an understanding of EQUS’ research activities and strategic objectives to ensure appropriate development of a legacy communication and engagement strategy for the Centre.

  • Produce regular publications, newsletters and online updates to ensure regular communication with the centre’s internal and external stakeholders.

  • Source content, research, interview, write, edit and produce original material about EQUS members, events and research, that can be used in a range of print and digital publications.

  • Create video and imagery for use in the media, internal publications and the Centre’s website, particularly related to the Centre's legacy.

  • Support the ongoing training of Centre researchers (particularly early-career researchers) and students in communicating their science effectively to a broader, non-academic audience.

  • Ensure all marketing and communication material is accurate and that it complies with accepted publication standards within UQ, EQUS and the Australian Research Council.

About You  

  • A degree in science communication, marketing, journalism or a related discipline combined with substantial relevant experience and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Exceptional writing skills with a journalistic flair and ability to create original content, based on varied levels of inputs and degrees of complexity, with high impact for audiences.  Demonstrated ability to write with clarity, accuracy and precision in a timely manner including the ability to identify potential funding sources and write the appropriate grant submissions.  

  • Experience in planning, developing and delivering of high-quality education, training, and community awareness programs and activities.

  • Well-developed and proven knowledge of integrated marketing and communications tactics and methods.  Includes experience in the digital space, including e-newsletters, social media campaigns, and web content management systems; and experience in the production of print materials such as brochures, fact sheets and annual reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, adapting to changing needs, with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to use judgement, act independently, and use initiative to solve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships and to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders both within and external to the University, including academic and professional staff.

  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software, databases, mass communication software such as Mailchimp, and website CMS such as Word Press.
