Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Wellness Center Services & Events, this position oversees the day-to-day operation of the Wellness Center pool, Marion Bowman Activities Center pool, and lakefront; and develops, implements, and oversees aquatics programming; and assists in the implementation and oversight of fitness programming.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develops, implements and oversees maintenance and cleaning schedules for Wellness Center pool and outdoor areas; Marion Bowman Activities Center pool; and lakefront
  • Monitors pool chemicals
  • Processes space requests for Wellness Center pool and outdoor areas made by internal and external clients
  • Processes space requests for Marion Bowman Activities Center pool made by internal and external clients
  • Maintains, inventories, and purchases aquatics and lakefront equipment
  • Develops quality aquatics programming, responding to the changing needs of students and members
  • Ensures adequate programming to meet community member needs, including but limited to swim lessons
  • Conducts CPR/First Aid and lifeguard certification courses - ensuring students are certified and training is updated
  • Implements pool rental program for internal and external clients
  • Researches best practices and shifting industry trends and adapting policies/procedures/programs
  • Hires, trains, and manages student employees assigned to pools and lakefront
  • Collaborates with campus depts. to promote participation in aquatics programming and activities
  • Assists in the development of and implements internal marketing plan for aquatics
  • Supervises daily operation of Wellness Center as manager on duty, including mornings, nights, and weekends
  • Supports fitness, recreation and events when necessary
  • Covers and supervises events when necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge:

  • A successful candidate will have experience in aquatics programming, management, and experience supervising staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required
  • Master’s degree preferred from a regionally accredited college or university specializing in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field preferred.
  • Current certification or willingness to obtain from a nationally accredited certification organization for Certified Pool Operator.
  • Current certification or willingness to obtain from a nationally accredited certification organization for Water Safety Instructor, CPR/First Aid Certification Instructor, and Lifeguard Certification Instructor preferred.
  • Knowledge of risk management, pool chemistry, state health code guidelines, and fiscal management preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skills in planning, organizing, systematizing, implementing and follow up are essential.
  • Must possess and maintain required aquatics certifications.

Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate with other departments on campus for special events.
  • Ability to speak and present in front of groups on campus for special events, admissions events, involvement fair, activities fair, etc.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
