Position Overview: We are seeking a Payroll and Accounting Technician to join our Finance and Accounting Outsourcing Consulting practice in Canada. This role will focus on payroll processing with an opportunity to provide bookkeeping services for small to mid-sized businesses. We are looking for a self-motivated, professional, and responsible individual to manage payroll processes, procedures, and filings. This critical role supports the success of our clients and our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Manage client payroll functions, including taxable benefits and benefits reconciliations, ROE filing.
  • Year end Payroll filings: Preparation of T4, T4A, RL-1 and other year-end slips. This will also include the preparation and filing for provincial Employer Health tax (and equivalent) and provincial Worker’s Compensation (and equivalent) accounts.
  • Consulting on payroll compliance: Including questions related, but not limited to, payroll calculations, taxable benefits, provincial Employer Health tax, provincial worker's compensation, province of employment.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping and Accounting Services: Provide various consulting services using independent judgment and technical knowledge.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Oversee accounts payable processes.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Journal Entries: Handle accrual and adjusting journal entries.
  • Financial Statements: Prepare financial statements and maintain depreciation schedules.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct research and prepare analysis of data, reports, and presentations as required.

Qualifications:

  • Payroll Certification: National Payroll Institute Payroll Certification (PCP) or equivalent experience/education.
  • Quebec Payroll Knowledge: Knowledge of Quebec payroll is an asset.
  • Bookkeeping and Accounting Certification: Certification in Bookkeeping and Accounting or equivalent recommended.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of payroll experience
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, calculations, application of taxable benefits and payroll software (Payworks, ADP, Dayforce), Excel
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $51,500 - $72,000

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
