Job Description:

Technical Team Lead – Payment Security

Division (SaaS)

About the Role

As a Technical Team Lead within Broadcom’s Payment Security Division, you will be at the forefront of securing global electronic payments. Our division powers a Global 3D Secure Authentication Service, leveraging advanced AI/ML neural networks and adaptive machine learning models to detect and mitigate transactional fraud at machine speed.

This is a pure "Player-Coach" role. We do not have hands-off managers; you will be expected to remain at the top of your game technically, actively contributing to the infrastructure, architecture, and engineering work alongside your team. You will lead, mentor, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering team covering Database, Network, VMware, and Kubernetes domains that support our high-throughput AI pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution & Architecture (The "Player")

  • Hands-on Implementation: Actively participate in the engineering, deployment, and maintenance of our core infrastructure. You are an active contributor, not just an overseer.

  • Cross-Discipline Automation: Drive and execute deep automation strategies across the entire stack—eliminating manual processes by writing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation scripts for network provisioning, database management, and system deployments.

  • AI/ML Infrastructure Support: Oversee and optimize the underlying compute, database, and containerized layers that power our high-throughput, low-latency AI/ML fraud decisioning engines.

  • Next-Gen Architecture: Influence, design, and implement next-gen SaaS/PaaS/IaaS architectures, ensuring seamless integration across network, database, and containerized layers.

  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all implementations meet rigorous networking protocols, strict database integrity requirements, and global financial compliance standards.

Team Leadership & Process (The "Coach")

  • Mentor & Cross-Train: Guide and cross-train a diverse team of specialized engineers; foster a collaborative culture focused on continuous technical growth.

  • Agile Operations: Manage sprint planning, daily work assignments, and coordinate scheduled maintenance windows with minimal customer impact.

  • Proactive Evolution: Track technical debt and shift the team culture from reactive troubleshooting to predictive, automated failure prevention.

On-Call & Incident Response

  • On-Call Rotation & Accountability: Actively participate in the team’s 24/7 production support rotation, sharing the responsibility of keeping our global service running.

  • Ultimate Escalation Anchor: Serve as the definitive escalation point during critical incidents. If primary on-call resources cannot resolve an issue or fail to perform to standard, you are the buck-stops-here responder who steps in to lead the recovery.

  • Tier-3 Troubleshooting: Dive deep into complex, high-impact production issues spanning the entire stack (Kubernetes, VMware, Network, DB) under tight SLAs.

  • Root-Cause Analysis: Lead post-incident reviews (RCAs) to identify systemic vulnerabilities and implement permanent, automated remediation strategies.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, systems architecture, or DevOps/SRE roles.

  • True Player-Coach Capability: Proven experience successfully balancing hands-on technical contributions with formal team leadership, mentorship, or supervision.

  • Deep Automation Expertise: A proven track record of designing and implementing robust, multi-disciplinary automation (e.g., Infrastructure as Code, automated configuration management, CI/CD pipelines) spanning network, database, and system architecture layers.

  • AI/ML Infrastructure Experience: Demonstrated experience managing, scaling, or troubleshooting infrastructure that supports AI/ML applications, real-time data science models, or massive data pipelines.

  • On-Call Leadership: Willingness and ability to participate in a critical 24/7 on-call rotation, with the proven technical confidence to act as the final line of defense when primary escalation paths fail.

  • Domain Expertise: Strong background in a mission-critical SaaS, FinTech, or highly regulated cloud environment where downtime is not an option.

  • Deep, Current Technical Fluency across:

    • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE): Applying SRE principles to maximize service availability, define SLIs/SLOs, manage error budgets, and build highly resilient, scalable infrastructure architectures.

    • Fault & Performance Management: Designing and utilizing enterprise telemetry, proactive monitoring, alerting systems, and capacity planning to predict system bottlenecks and rapidly isolate infrastructure faults.

    • DevOps & CI/CD: Building, maintaining, and optimizing robust CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows for seamless cloud delivery.

    • Containerization: Live Kubernetes cluster management and orchestration.

    • Virtualization & Compute: Enterprise-level VMware environments.

    • Networking: Advanced network engineering, routing, switching, and security protocols.

    • Databases: Hands-on database administration, performance tuning, and data integrity.

Preferred Attributes

  • The "Firefighter" Mentality: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills with a history of resolving complex, high-pressure production-level challenges under tight SLAs.

  • Technical Communicator: Ability to translate deep technical realities into clear, high-level business impacts for senior stakeholders.

  • Future-Focused: Passionate about engineering-out friction through automation, predictive infrastructure health, and AI/ML-driven ecosystems.
